Thomas Tuchel has revealed his thinking behind selecting an expanded 35-man England squad for the forthcoming friendlies against Uruguay and Japan as the World Cup draws nearer.
The German coach has opted for a substantial group comprising five goalkeepers, 11 defenders, eight midfielders and 11 forwards.
Notably, 13 players who missed the November international window have been brought back into the fold.
Tuchel explained his approach: "We decided to divide it into basically two camps almost, so we bring players in that we haven't seen, who haven't played so much to open up the picture, and the competition for plane tickets to the US.

"Then from Friday and Saturday, a group of players will come into camp - 10 or 11 players who get a rest before and we will then go with a new group and mix of players into the match against Japan."
The squad features significant returns for Manchester United duo Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo, both of whom have flourished since Michael Carrick took charge at Old Trafford following Ruben Amorim's departure.
Maguire's revival at centre-back has been particularly striking, with the defender regaining the form that once made him a regular starter for the national team.

Mainoo's recall is equally noteworthy given the young midfielder found himself frequently sidelined under Amorim's management.
However, his performances since Carrick's arrival have been impressive enough to earn him a return to international duty.
Both players will be eager to cement their places ahead of this summer's tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
