The Spurs boss was brutally honest in his assessment of the game

Thomas Frank opened up after he saw his side lose their home fixture against Bournemouth, ending his 100 per cent league record at the club before the international break.

The Cherries grabbed an early goal through striker Evanilson, after he saw his deflected effort loop over the diving Guglielmo Vicario in the Spurs net.

Andoni Iraola’s side defended resolutely, holding onto a well-earned victory. Spurs, on the other hand, struggled to create many chances of note or threaten the Bournemouth goal.

After the game, Frank admitted that Bournemouth “deserved” to win the game.

Speaking to the BBC, the Danish boss said: "It was not a top performance. We played against a very good Bournemouth team that played on their strengths and we didn't handle it well. They deserved to win.

"They did well in terms of putting pressure on us and we should have handled it better. Sometimes you don't put in your best performance and it's about staying in the game, which we did.

"The players showed a lot of heart and effort, can't blame them for that. On the day, the pass, the dribble, the touch was not there.”

One moment of controversy during the game was Antoine Semenyo, who stayed on the pitch despite making a foul while on a yellow card.

Frank remained honest in his assessment of the decision to keep him on the pitch: "I would have been disappointed if I got that second yellow to one of my players, to be honest."

Spurs confirmed the £51million signing of 22-year-old Xavi Simons yesterday, adding a creative spark to an attack that struggled to threaten Bournemouth at all.

The north London site managed just one shot on target throughout the game and failed to create a single big chance.

Frank remained positive about the arrival of Simons, who promises to add a much-needed creative spark to their attack.

"Very excited about [Xavi Simons' arrival]. That will be a positive, no doubt about that. Looking forward to it,” Frank admitted.

Iraola, who saw his side pick up their second victory in three games, believes it was a “complete” performance from his team.

"It was a very complete performance. We were very strong from the beginning. We have had more chances, and the biggest thing is we haven't scored the second goal. We closed the game well,” the Spanish boss said.

"This is the Premier League. Every game is difficult. We are in our very best version or close and showed that we can compete. We can continue at this level.

"I felt a big improvement on the defensive side. They've [the attackers] made the job of the defenders probably easier.

"Vicario has played very well, and we missed big chances. We should have killed the game early. We scored just one.”

Despite his side’s impressive victory, Iraola confirmed there will be more additions to his squad before the end of the transfer window next week.

"I think there will be changes. Normally, everyone waits until the end. I am delighted because it finished either way. It's uncertain and it's not good in the group. We can create more sense of belonging,” he added.

"We wanted to give them a good game today because we had a bad performance in the Carabao Cup. I'm sure they have enjoyed the game."
