The Manchester United legend is set to work for ITV for the tournament this summer

Roy Keane has revealed he ended up storming into a hotel kitchen and branding staff "useless" after becoming enraged over a delayed breakfast while trying to secure his visa for this summer's World Cup.

The former Manchester United captain is expected to feature as part of ITV's punditry team for the tournament, which will be staged across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

But even the simple task of arranging travel documents was accompanied by a typically fiery Keane outburst.

Speaking on Stick to Football alongside Ian Wright and Jill Scott, the 54-year-old recounted how his patience snapped while staying at a luxury hotel in London.

Keane explained that he was under time pressure before heading to the embassy to complete his visa application.

Yet after ordering what he believed was a straightforward breakfast of two poached eggs on toast, he was left waiting while other guests were served first.

"I ordered two poached eggs on toast," Keane said.

"Then a load of people came in after me and started to get their food before me."

Initially, he tried to remain calm.

But with the clock ticking and his breakfast still nowhere to be seen, his frustration quickly escalated.

After being told staff would check with the kitchen, Keane decided to take matters into his own hands.

"I had to go in there," he said.

"I've ordered half an hour ago, two poached eggs."

The former midfielder admitted he then confronted hotel staff directly before marching into the kitchen itself.

"I could see the kitchen with the swinging doors," he continued.

"I went into the kitchen, 'I get two f****** poached eggs.'"

Keane said the incident left him flustered as he rushed to his visa appointment.

"Honestly, I was walking out to this embassy," he continued.

"I had my big jacket on. I was sweating."

He also mocked the hotel's laid-back atmosphere, saying staff repeatedly urged him to relax.

Keane said: "But the guy was all like, 'Oh, chill.'

"No, I'm not chilling."

The story had Wright and Scott in stitches as they listened to yet another example of Keane's famously uncompromising personality.

Keane has become one of the most recognisable voices in football broadcasting since retiring from management.

His blunt analysis and no-nonsense style have made him a fan favourite on television, particularly during major international tournaments.

He is set to reunite with Wright as part of ITV's coverage of the World Cup this summer.
