Liverpool’s latest academy prodigy Rio Ngumoha says he is 'buzzing' after becoming the youngest goalscorer in the club’s history with a dramatic stoppage-time strike against Newcastle.
The 16-year-old, who turns 17 later this week, wrote himself into Reds folklore on Monday night when he struck in the 97th minute to seal a thrilling 3-2 win at St James’ Park.
Coming off the bench for his senior debut, Ngumoha showed remarkable composure as he latched onto a through ball from Dominik Szoboszlai and fired past Martin Dubravka.

“I’m buzzing. I’m so happy to score, especially the winner.
"What a good moment. Normally, coaches are always saying ‘make the back-post run’, so the fact I did that and scored was crazy.
“Mo [Salah] and Dom put it through his legs and when I was one-on-one I just smashed it.
"Dom just knew I was there. He even said to me in the changing room, ‘I hoped you were there’. As the ball came, I just backed myself to score. It’s crazy.”

Ngumoha was sent on in the 96th minute with the game tied at 2-2.
Manager Arne Slot’s instructions, he revealed, were blunt and urgent: “It was crazy.
"He just looked at me, pointed at me – ‘quickly, get ready’. You just have to come on and make an impact.
"Thank God I did that.”

The youngster’s confidence has clearly been encouraged by his senior team-mates, who he credits with giving him freedom to play his natural attacking game.
“All of my teammates tell me that if it’s on, to beat my man or take them on,” he explained.
“But I’ve got to mix it up sometimes because, if there are two players there, then there might be a pass or a one-two and I find myself in a scoring area.”
Despite the enormity of his contribution, Ngumoha was quick to downplay the hype.
“I heard the fans scream my name and it was a sensational moment,” he said.
“But I can’t get too carried away with all the noise because at the end of the day I probably do that finish 100 times on the training ground.
"It’s no different. But with the fans backing you there, it makes it crazy.”
His calmness contrasted with the pandemonium around him as Liverpool supporters celebrated a dramatic late win.
