The match has been moved forward, despite Aston Villa's best attempts to keep the fixture in place

Tottenham's fixture against Aston Villa has been moved forward by two days, due to their potential Europa League final appearance.

The game was scheduled to kick off at 2.15pm on Sunday 18 May, but has moved to Friday 16 May at 7.30pm in case Ange Postecoglou’s side reach the final.

Spurs currently lead FK Bodø/Glimt, who are fourth in their domestic league, 3-1 after travelling to the Norwegian outfit last week.

The north London side are hoping to make their first European final appearance since their 2-0 loss to Liverpool in the 2019 Champions League final.

Aston Villa protested the request, claiming it was an important period of their season and it could suggest double standards.

Emery’s side, who find themselves seventh in the Premier League this season as they look to regain Champions League qualification, also objected to the request as the game will be their final home match of the season and some activities may not be possible during an evening game.

This comes after Villa’s impressive Champions League campaign, where they reached the quarter-finals but were knocked out by Paris Saint-Germain, with an aggregate score of 5-4 to the French side.

Villa won just four of their eleven Premier League games that directly followed a Champions League fixture this campaign, with the side playing up to every three days during April due to their involvement in the FA Cup, Champions League and Premier League.

Manchester United were already scheduled to travel to Chelsea for a 8pm kick off on the Friday evening, due to a potential clash with the Women’s FA Cup final between the sides on Sunday May 18. But this fixture has been moved by 15 minutes to 8.15pm.

The Red Devils find themselves 3-0 against Atletico Club, after travelling to the Estadio de San Mamés in Bilbao, where the final will also take place on Wednesday May 21.

This means the final will be played before the conclusion of the Premier League season, on May 25, where United host Villa and Spurs host Brighton.

It would also mean that both clubs will have four days to prepare for the final, as opposed to a measly two.

Aston Villa still have both Spurs and Manchester United to play before the conclusion of the season, with the Europa League final sandwiched in between the two fixtures, along with an away fixture against Bournemouth prior.

LATEST SPORTS NEWS:

Speaking to TalkSPORT on the fixture change, Aston Villa legend Gabby Agbonlahor said: "I don't like that because Aston Villa fans, I've seen it all over social media, it's only ten days away.

"They're paying for tickets, they're paying for flights, they're paying for hotels.

"The Premier League now have done Spurs a favour, when they didn't do it for Aston Villa when they had PSG [in the Champions League]. Is that a 'Top Six' bias that they're using? I don't get it."

For Fantasy Premier League fans, the games will remain in Gameweek 37.
