Former Chelsea and Brazil icon Oscar has been rushed to hospital after "collapsing" during training in Sao Paulo.

The Midfield maestro is thought to have lost consciousness while working on an exercise bike, having started to feel unwell.

Oscar, 34, fell to the floor, where he was unconscious for two minutes, according to Brazilian media.

An ambulance then rushed the footballer to the Einstein Hospital Israelita in São Paulo, where he underwent further tests.

Doctors and medical staff discovered he was suffering from cardiac issues.

He is now in a stable condition and will remain under further observation until the extent of his diagnosis is known, the club has confirmed.

The Brazilian had an MRI last night and has undergone a diagnostic catheterisation.

São Paulo FC released a statement following the incident.

It read: "During tests carried out on Tuesday morning, at SuperCT, as part of the preparation for the 2026 pre-season, the athlete Oscar presented an incident with cardiological changes, being promptly attended to by the club’s professionals and the medical team from Einstein Hospital Israelita, which was present at the site.

"The player was then taken to the hospital, where he is clinically stable and remains under observation for further tests to clarify the diagnosis.

"As is usual procedure and respecting the player’s privacy, new information will be released as soon as there is an update from the medical team, in agreement with Oscar.”

Oscar secured a return to the Brazilian club side in 2024, signing a 3-year contract.

In a statement after joining, the former Chelsea midfielder said: "I'm happy to be back in Brazil and to be able to play for Sao Paulo, which is the club where I started out, where I made my base and where I grew up.

"I thank you for the affection I have received on social media these past few days and I will do my best to achieve great things together."

In his early days, Oscar scored three goals in the 2011 Fifa U-20 World Cup final against Portugal, becoming the first player to score a hat-trick in the competition's history.

On July 16, 2012, Chelsea announced the signing of Oscar on a five-year contract, with the playmaker tipped to be one of the most exciting prospects in the league.

During his time at the Premier League club, the Brazilian made 203 appearances, scoring 38 goals.

Oscar enjoyed a highly successful spell at Chelsea, winning the UEFA Europa League in 2013, two Premier League titles (2014–15, 2016–17), and the EFL Cup in 2015.

One of his standout moments was his stunning strike against Juventus in the Champions League, which was voted Chelsea’s Goal of the Season.

In December 2016, Oscar completed a high-profile transfer from Chelsea to Shanghai SIPG in the Chinese Super League, in a deal reportedly worth around £60 million, making him one of the highest-paid players in the world at the time.

Now, the playmaker is considering retiring from football to focus on his recovery, according to new reports.
