The Australian is yet to win with Forest

Nottingham Forest are reportedly weighing up the future of manager Ange Postecoglou after a disastrous start to his tenure at the City Ground.

The Australian took charge just a month ago but is already under pressure after failing to record a single victory since his appointment on September 9. Forest’s latest defeat has left them hovering just one point above the Premier League relegation zone in 17th place.

Owner Evangelos Marinakis is said to be growing increasingly frustrated with the team’s performances and has already identified former Everton and Burnley boss Sean Dyche as a potential successor.

Sources close to the club said: “Marinakis is considering his options and wants someone with Premier League survival experience if results don’t improve quickly.”

Dyche, 54, is understood to be among the leading contenders should Postecoglou be dismissed. The former Forest trainee still lives in Nottingham and is seen as a safe pair of hands with a proven track record of keeping clubs in the top flight.

He famously guided Burnley to two promotions to the Premier League during his nine-year spell at Turf Moor before managing Everton between 2023 and 2025.

Forest’s early-season slump is in stark contrast to last year’s campaign, which saw the club finish seventh under Nuno Espirito Santo. Nuno was sacked earlier this season despite earning four of Forest’s five league points before Postecoglou’s arrival.

One insider said: “The expectation this season was to build on Nuno’s progress. Instead, the team has regressed, and patience is running thin.”

Reports suggest Marinakis has also considered Fulham manager Marco Silva and former Forest boss Steve Cooper as alternatives, though Dyche’s availability makes him the most straightforward choice.

Cooper, who guided Forest back to the Premier League in 2022, is currently in charge of Danish Superliga side Brøndby.

Postecoglou, who won the Europa League with Tottenham Hotspur last season before being dismissed following a 17th-place league finish, was seen as a bold appointment by Forest. His attacking philosophy, however, has yet to yield results in Nottingham.

A source added: “Marinakis backed him to bring an exciting style of football, but the results simply haven’t followed.”

LATEST SPORT NEWS:

Forest’s next fixture is a crucial home clash against Chelsea at the City Ground next Saturday.

Postecoglou is expected to remain in charge for that match, but defeat could spell the end of his brief reign.

Frustration among supporters has already begun to show, with sections of the crowd chanting “you’re getting sacked in the morning” during the Europa League loss to Danish side FC Midtjylland on October 2.

The next game at the City Ground may well decide whether Postecoglou remains in the dugout beyond the international break.
