Alexander Isak has been linked with a move away from Newcastle

Newcastle United remain committed to keeping Alexander Isak at St James' Park despite their pursuit of Hugo Ekitike.

The Magpies have identified the French striker as a priority target to strengthen their attacking options ahead of next season.

Ekitike, who has attracted interest from Liverpool and Chelsea, would command a hefty fee with a release clause of approximately £86million.

The 23-year-old appears to be Newcastle's prime target as they seek additional firepower.

However, the club have no intention of allowing Isak to leave, even as they pursue Ekitike.

Newcastle's strategy involves having both strikers rotate throughout what promises to be a demanding campaign.

The club will compete across four fronts next season, having secured Champions League qualification for the second time in three years.

With three domestic competitions alongside European football, the ability to rotate players will prove essential.

Currently, William Osula stands as the only other striker at the club following Callum Wilson's departure as a free agent.

The Telegraph reports that Newcastle recognise the importance of securing another forward to provide cover when Isak requires rest.

The club wants Ekitike to share striking duties with Isak, acknowledging that the Swedish international cannot play every match.

Liverpool and Arsenal have shown long-term interest in Isak, but Newcastle have placed a £150million valuation on their star striker. This substantial price tag reflects the club's determination to retain his services.

Newcastle also plan on offering the Swedish international a new contract, with senior figures having no interest in sanctioning his departure.

Any potential suitor would need to present an extraordinary offer to tempt Newcastle into negotiations.

Isak scored 23 goals in 34 Premier League appearances last season. His current contract runs until summer 2028, with the striker earning approximately £120,000 per week.

Manager Eddie Howe has publicly stated his opposition to selling Isak, declaring earlier this year: "Alexander is not for sale. I want to build a squad, I want the strongest possible squad for next season."

Howe emphasised his focus on strengthening rather than weakening the squad, adding: "We have a strong squad and if we can add some players for the first time in a few transfer windows, that will make a big difference for us. That's what I'm focused on, not the other way around."

Newcastle have already bolstered their attacking options this summer with the signings of Anthony Elanga and Antonito Cordero.
