Marcus Rashford is facing a delayed start to his Barcelona career due to FFP concerns

Barcelona's attempts to field Marcus Rashford in their season opener against Mallorca on Saturday remain in doubt as registration complications persist.

The Manchester United loanee finds himself unable to make his debut whilst the Catalan giants grapple with La Liga's stringent financial regulations.

The club's inability to register new arrivals stems from years of expenditure exceeding revenue on transfers and wages.

Rashford joins goalkeeper Joan Garcia in awaiting clearance to play, with both players caught in administrative uncertainty ahead of the campaign's first fixture.

These registration difficulties have become a recurring issue for the Spanish champions, who face similar constraints to those experienced last season.

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick voiced his dissatisfaction with the ongoing financial complications during Friday's press conference.

"For me, the situation, you can imagine I'm not happy about that. But I know the situation and I believe in the club," the German coach told reporters.

Despite his frustration, Flick maintained faith in the club's ability to resolve the matter. "We have to wait till tomorrow. It was the same situation last season," he said.

The manager emphasised his team's focus would remain on controllable factors. "We will focus on what we can change and what is in our hands. The other things, I believe in the club."

Barcelona found a partial solution to their registration crisis through an arrangement with injured goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

The German international, who faces a minimum three-month absence following surgery, initially resisted signing a medical leave agreement that would free up 80 per cent of his salary to assist with financial compliance.

The situation escalated when Ter Stegen was temporarily removed as captain before the role was restored once he accepted the arrangement.

Flick addressed the keeper's situation, stating: "I think the most important thing is that everyone speaks together. Marc and the club, they spoke."

The manager praised Ter Stegen's contributions, adding: "He's shown for many years here that he's a fantastic goalkeeper and the important thing is that he comes back and is ready to play. We'll all help him, we're all on his side."

The financial arrangement sees Barcelona assuming full responsibility for Rashford's wages during his loan spell, resulting in approximately £12.75 million in savings for Manchester United this season.

The deal includes a purchase option for the Spanish champions to acquire Rashford permanently next summer.

Goalkeeper Garcia, who joined from city rivals Espanyol in June, remains unregistered alongside Wojciech Szczesny, who recently extended his contract. The Polish keeper's registration also awaits resolution of the club's financial fair play compliance.

The registration deadline looms as Saturday's match approaches, leaving both Rashford and Garcia's participation hanging in the balance.
