The 40-year-old will be hoping to improve on last season's shambolic 15th-placed finish

The Red Devils toiled under the 40-year-old last term, finishing 15th in the table after a campaign that lurched from one crisis to another.

He started by discussing injuries, with the former Sporting Lisbon boss confirming Lisandro Martinez and Noussair Mazraoui wouldn't be involved - while Joshua Zirkzee and Andre Onana could be.

"No, Licha and Mazraoui are out, they cannot play this game," said the United boss.

"Josh [Zirkzee] and Andre [Onana] are recovering and are options. We'll see."

Out of all of United's summer signings, Sesko is arguably the most exciting.

The Slovenia international was actually linked with Arsenal earlier this summer before the Gunners recruited Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon instead.

Sesko comes with a big reputation, having established himself as one of the most exciting forwards in world football.

United have been crying out for goals, having seen both Rasmus Hojlund and Zirkzee struggle last term.

Amorim is, however, convinced he's got the right man ready to spearhead his attack.

"I can see Ben being a striker at this club for many years," he admitted.

"That is why we paid a lot of money.

"He didn't have a lot of time [training], but physically he is ready.

"That is a big component in our league. He's ready to play and we'll see if he starts."

United know they can't afford another dire campaign like the last one.

They were awful for the majority of the season and, to compound their woes, lost to Tottenham in the Europa League final.

United have no European football this term. Amorim, however, has revealed he's targeting a place in the UEFA Conference League, Europa League or Champions League as he looks to bring the glory days back to Old Trafford.

"We want to return to Europe," he confirmed. "We have to be realistic with our fans.

"We will have to fight a lot because there are more teams with time together than us. We have to focus game by game. We want to win against Arsenal.

"I learned a lot last season. I don't need to focus on the future. That doesn't matter and I don't care.

"I need to live day by day. Everything that is noise to our team, I take out of the picture, so I just prepare my team against Arsenal."
