Ruben Amorim has laid down the law on several players at Manchester United

Manchester United have instructed five first-team players to postpone their return to pre-season training as they seek transfers away from Old Trafford.

Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia will not join their team-mates at Carrington on Monday morning.

The quintet have all informed the club of their desire to leave this summer.

United management believe delaying their return until later in July provides the best opportunity for all parties to explore potential moves.

The decision affects some of United's most high-profile players, with Rashford having been a key figure at the club since breaking through the academy ranks.

In a significant development, Rashford has been stripped of his iconic number 10 shirt, which will be handed to new £62.5million signing Matheus Cunha.

The forward's representatives were informed of this decision in advance, report the Daily Mail.

The 27-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa following a falling-out with manager Ruben Amorim.

He has since been linked with moves to Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Garnacho's future appears particularly uncertain after Amorim told him to "pray" that he can find a new club following his reaction to being benched for the Europa League final against Tottenham.

Napoli have expressed interest in the Argentina winger, whilst Chelsea and Tottenham are among three Premier League clubs considering a move.

Sancho was set to return after Chelsea paid a £5m penalty rather than making his loan permanent for up to £25m.

Juventus are interested in taking him on loan but can pay less than half of his £275,000-a-week wages.

Antony enjoyed a successful loan spell at Real Betis last season, with the Spanish club keen to negotiate a new deal that could see him return on loan with an obligation to buy for around £30m.

Malacia knows he is unlikely to feature in Amorim's plans after PSV Eindhoven opted against making his loan move permanent for £8.3m.

The five players will retain access to medical and rehabilitation facilities at Carrington should they wish to use them during this period.

United have confirmed they will be welcomed back if they cannot secure moves to new clubs over the coming weeks.

The rest of the squad will begin reporting back from Monday, with manager Amorim and his coaching staff having already returned to Carrington on Friday.

The Portuguese coach was photographed arriving at the training ground alongside his assistant Carlos Fernandes, appearing eager to begin preparations for the new season.

Players who don't report on Monday will have staggered return dates throughout the week.
