The Red Devils won 2-0 in front of their fans on Saturday

Michael Carrick has praised his Manchester United players, as well as Jonny Evans, after they made it four Premier League victories in a row with a 2-0 win over Tottenham at Old Trafford on Saturday.

After Cristian Romero was sent off in the 29th minute, the Red Devils secured all three points via goals in either half from Bryan Mbuemo and Bruno Fernandes.

It means United remain a team very much on the up, having won all of their matches since Ruben Amorim's sacking last month.

They're still on course to play Champions League football next term, which is the objective Carrick has been set.

United's first goal came via a set-piece, with Fernandes passing to Kobbie Mainoo before Mbeumo then delivered the goods.

And Carrick, speaking to TNT Sports, said that former Red Devils teammate Evans had been working on things with players behind the scenes.

"I wouldn’t say set piece coach, Johnny has been doing a lot of work with the players so that is the reward for that," he said when quizzed on his team's first goal.

United have now won all four of their matches since Carrick took charge last month.

Manchester City, Fulham and now Tottenham have all been overcome at home, with Arsenal beaten at the Emirates Stadium.

With Carrick continuing to impress, calls for him to be given the job on a permanent basis are rising in volume.

He insists, however, that now isn't the time to address his future.

"When it goes to 10 men it’s always quite a tricky situation. We looked dangerous right from the start of the game which was really pleasing again," he stated.

"I thought Tottenham played some really good football first half so we had to solve a few things but with a goal up and 10 men I thought we managed it well, largely in control and always wanting the second goal.

"It’s [his future] is not for now. To get carried away as a supporter is where you should be, that's why they come to support us to dream and get carried away."

United captain Fernandes, meanwhile, was thrilled with his side's victory and his own goal.

"I think that if you go with your feet the probability of the ball going very high is big because it is bouncing," he said, explaining his strike.

"Some people will say I didn't mean it [his goal] but I did because I knew the ball would go straight into the floor so I had to just go straight across Vicario.

"We needed to close the game. We knew we were very in control of the game but at any moment it can change.

"They had very good players up front that could make a big difference for them. To close the game then, we still could have got one or two goals but it is not easy against a low block, they were very compact and aggressive and defended very well even with 10 men.

"When we win games the confidence goes higher and higher. It is very important for us to maintain the focus and not overdo it now.

"This is very good and very nice but we need to keep going. If you don't win the next one and the next one you will get back into the same place where you don't feel comfortable, you lose confidence and struggle to believe in everything you have been doing until now.

"But, we have been doing very well until now to do everything that Michael and the staff have been asking of us and we have been very brave taking responsibility in some moments in the game to go and play and do whatever you need to do to win the game. The main focus is the next game, it's four wins in a row, this one is nice, but we need to make it five now."
