The 44-year-old will be backed in the summer transfer window

Michael Carrick has dropped a strong hint that his future at Manchester United will be resolved in the coming days, with the club reportedly keen to confirm his permanent appointment before Sunday's clash with Nottingham Forest.

Carrick has overseen an impressive turnaround since taking charge in January and is widely expected to be rewarded with the role on a full-time basis after guiding United back into the UEFA Champions League.

The 44-year-old was asked about his future during Friday's press conference and suggested an announcement is close.

"The future for me is going to be decided pretty soon, we knew that," Carrick said with a smile.

"There's two games to go, and apart from that there's not much else to say. The situation is pretty clear for us all."

According to the Daily Mail, United are understood to be discussing a two-year contract with Carrick, with the option of a further 12 months.

They say the Red Devils are hoping to confirm his permanent appointment before Sunday's fixture.

The club are also expected to retain assistant coach Steve Holland, whose experience with England national football team and Chelsea has proved invaluable.

Carrick was full of praise for Holland's influence behind the scenes.

"He's been fantastic," Carrick said.

"He's a very wise man and says things that really are important at the right time."

Carrick, a former United midfielder, admitted managing at Old Trafford has been a source of immense pride.

"It's a unique football club, a special club," he said.

"I'm immensely proud to have come back and been a part of it."

Following Sunday's final home fixture of the season, Carrick will address supporters on the pitch and thanked them for their backing during his spell in charge.

"The supporters are a massive part of this club," he said.

"It's important for me to thank the fans for that."

The match is also expected to mark Casemiro's final appearance at Old Trafford before his anticipated departure this summer.

Carrick praised the Brazilian's professionalism after the midfielder was informed earlier this year that he would be leaving when his contract expires.

"Since I've been here and worked with him, he's been fantastic for us," Carrick said.

"Credit to him for the way he's gone about that."

Casemiro has enjoyed a resurgence during the second half of the campaign, helping United secure Champions League qualification and rebuilding his relationship with supporters.

Carrick believes the clarity over the midfielder's future allowed both player and club to focus fully on ending the season strongly.
