Fraizer Campbell has opened up about his former side

Former Manchester United star Fraizer Campbell has opened up on Ruben Amorim's side, and goalkeeper Senne Lammens in particular, amid their mini resurgence.

The Red Devils allowed David de Gea to leave the club back in the summer of 2023, with manager at the time Erik ten Hag believing the grass would be greener with Andre Onana between the sticks.

However, Onana toiled for two years at Old Trafford.

He made error after error and, though Amorim backed his man publicly, he eventually grew frustrated - with the final straw a poor performance in their shock Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Grimsby Town in August.

Onana has, to his credit, fared well since leaving. The Cameroon international is currently shining with Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor, who are already keen on a permanent deal.

But United aren't likely to want him back, with Lammens impressing during his four matches for his new club.

Few had heard of the Belgian when he arrived from Royal Antwerp on transfer deadline day. Aston Villa shot-stopper Emiliano Martinez had been a target yet, ultimately, the fallen giants went for the younger option instead.

Campbell, speaking exclusively to GB News via Casino.org, the popular resource known for helping Brits find the best online casinos in the UK, has now opened up on his old side and their goalkeepers past and present.

The former United star, who made four appearances for the club, believes Onana struggled because he simply couldn't handle the pressure.

"I just think he was never happy in England and never looked comfortable playing for Man United," he stated.

"The odd game he played well, but plenty of errors led to losses and the defence were never confident, it looked like he was making it difficult for the rest of the team."

As for Lammens, however, the 38-year-old has nothing but positive things to say.

"I believe Lammens in goal has been a key help. He gives confidence to the defence and they are not conceding first," he said.

"Also, after the Sunderland home win, they seemed to get more confidence and then going to Liverpool and winning was such a massive boost for them, that they grew even more.

"[Bryan] Mbuemo has really settled and his quality was never in doubt given his performances for Brentford, so he took his chances well in recent games."

Some United fans were daring to dream of a shock title challenge just a week ago.

After victories over Sunderland, Liverpool and Brighton, they then proceeded to slip to a 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest.

Campbell believes the Red Devils solved many of their issues back in the summer.

In his eyes, however, more investment from the top is needed if they're to end their wait for the biggest trophy of them all.

He continued: "They have solved the goalkeeper issue. They are solving the ability to score goals.

"Next up is the rest of the spine and to secure a new centre-back and central midfielder to add to the squad.

"They are believed to be in for [Carlos] Baleba from Brighton, but others with that type of ability will help the team progress.

"They are on the up now and if they can look to have a good transfer window in January and summer, they can challenge."

United are next in action against Thomas Frank's Tottenham on Saturday (12.30pm).

Spurs will go into the contest on a high, however, after an emphatic 4-0 victory over Copenhagen in the Champions League on Wednesday.
