Mladen Zizovic collapsed on the side of the field on Sunday evening

Newly emerged footage has shown the quiet moments before a devastating incident during a Serbian top flight match that led to the death of Radnicki 1923 manager Mladen Zizovic.

The 44-year-old collapsed at the side of the pitch just 22 minutes into his team’s fixture against Mladost Lucani on Sunday evening.

He was taken to hospital, where he was later confirmed to have died following a heart attack.

In the early stages of the match, Zizovic is seen standing beside the dugout with arms folded, calling instructions to his players as they protected a 1-0 lead.

The atmosphere appeared routine. Within minute, however, everything had tragically changed.

The footage shows staff rushing towards him as he lay on the turf, medical personnel immediately summoned as players looked on in shock.

The match was initially paused before resuming. As confirmation of Zizovic’s death filtered through shortly before half time, play was abandoned altogether.

Reports from inside the stadium describe scenes of visible devastation, with players from both teams breaking down and comforting one another as the scale of the tragedy became clear.

One of Zizovic’s players, Mehmed Cosic, later revealed that the coach had not been feeling himself earlier in the day.

Speaking to Faktor, Cosic said that the manager had complained about the meal provided before the match and had stopped eating.

“I did not fall asleep until almost 3.30am. I have no words, we are stunned,” Cosic said as he tried to process the events.

“I am replaying the movie in my head. He was giving me instructions, turned around and at one point I saw that he was talking to the referee by the benches. Then he went towards our bench, turned to the others and said ‘I am not feeling well, I am not feeling well’.”

Cosic then recalled the moment of collapse.

“He fell, you saw everything else. In the video that appeared on social networks, you can also hear screams,” he added.

“They say he complained about the fish, said he would not eat it anymore. There were no problems during the warm up, the game started, everything was ok.”

The players attempted to continue, holding on to a belief that their manager might yet return.

“We continued the game, hoping that the worst would not happen and that he would be with us again. We were in disbelief but we did not want to disappoint him,” Cosic said.

“We believed that he would come back and be with us again and that we would celebrate the victory.

“Then there was complete shock. The referee suddenly stopped the game. Someone said ‘He died’. Everything stopped in an instant.”

Radnicki 1923 have since suspended training for the week, while next weekend’s match against Cukaricki has been postponed.

A funeral is scheduled for Thursday. Supporters of FK Borac Banja Luka, where Zizovic previously worked as both player and manager, have already painted a mural in his honour outside the club stadium.

The club released a heartfelt tribute.

“Boss, Our Ziza, We cannot believe that you left us,” read a statement.

“We will remember that you gave your best and that we wrote stories for eternity. Life is cruel and takes the best of us too soon.”

Radnicki 1923 added their own message, expressing “deep pain and disbelief” while praising Zizovic’s calm presence and professionalism.

Zizovic, who represented Bosnia and Herzegovina twice at international level, had taken charge of Radnicki 1923 less than a month before his passing.

His loss has been felt across the region, prompting tributes from clubs, players and supporters who spoke of a respected and widely liked figure devoted to his sport.
