Laura Woods is set to return to presenting duties on Wednesday evening for Manchester City's Champions League encounter with Real Madrid.

The 38-year-old broadcaster's comeback comes merely a week after she gave viewers a significant fright when she collapsed live on air during ITV4's coverage of England Women's friendly match against Ghana last Tuesday.

The popular presenter, who welcomed her son Leo in January, will front the coverage from Madrid alongside pundits Steven Gerrard, Joleon Lescott and Steve McManaman.

Commentary duties will fall to Darren Fletcher and Ally McCoist as City face Xabi Alonso's side.

The alarming incident occurred as Ian Wright was offering his analysis of the upcoming fixture, when Woods suddenly slumped forward in her chair.

Wright and fellow presenter Anita Asante attempted to break her fall as she dropped to the ground.

Production staff quickly cut to a wide stadium shot, then to an advert break.

Upon returning to the air, Katie Shanahan had stepped in to continue hosting duties.

She addressed the situation, telling viewers: "As you might have noticed, we don't have the wonderful Laura Woods.

"She has just been taken ill and is in very good hands. We want to assure you that she is doing ok."

After the game, Woods' fiancé Adam Collard posted on social media to confirm she was safe and receiving appropriate care.

He wrote: "Laura is all ok and with the right people. Thank you for all of your kind messages."

Woods subsequently addressed the incident herself, expressing both relief and embarrassment about what had unfolded on live television.

She said: "Gosh, that was a bit weird.

"Sorry to worry everyone, I'm OK, the wonderful paramedics at Saints have said it's probably a virus, just need a bit of rest and rehydration."

The presenter acknowledged feeling self-conscious about the public nature of her collapse, adding: "I'm really embarrassed that happened on TV, but a big thank you to my colleagues at ITV who have really looked after me tonight."

She also thanked Wright and Asante directly "for catching me" during the frightening moment.

TNT Sports wrote: "Everyone at TNT Sports would like to send Laura Woods our very best wishes.

"Get well soon, Woodsy."

Woods is a regular on ITV and TNT Sports, where she presents coverage of the men's Champions League.
