Mohamed Salah has been branded a "crybaby" by Mark Lawrenson on GB News for his explosive interview following Liverpool's 3-3 draw with Leeds United at Elland Road.

Lawrenson, who won five League titles and the European Cup in the 1980s with the Reds, spoke to Paul Coyte on the Breakfast show about the situation at his former club.

The former Match of the Day Pundit, who departed Liverpool in March 1988, told the People's Channel: "I never understood this. Why, if you're a player and you've got a problem with the manager, go and knock on his door and say, Look, what's the story?

"You've left me out a couple of times. What are you thinking? Am I not doing this? Am I not doing that?"

He added: "But just go in instead of telling the whole world, it's a bit like a crybaby going and running off to everybody.

"Just go and see the manager and say, 'What's the issue? Can we sort it out or not sort it out?'"

Lawrenson questioned: "Is he just trying to get into such a position where the club say, you know what? Would you like to leave? And we know where he'll go if he's going to leave, which would be Saudi Arabia."

"I don't know his agent, never, ever met him. But I just have this picture, which I just think he's making sure that he stays in the headlines, and it's not the players' problem. Look it's messy."

Lawrenson won numerous major trophies, forming a legendary partnership with Alan Hansen at the heart of Liverpool’s defence.

Before his success at Anfield, he began his professional journey with Preston North End and later played for Brighton & Hove Albion.

When asked if he ever thought about speaking to the press before his departure, Lawrenson told Britain's News Channel: "You wouldn't have dreamt of it to be quite honest with you."

The comments come after the Egyptian forward told reporters at Elland Road: "I could not believe I was sitting on the bench for 90 minutes. That's the third time. It's the first time in my career, I think."

He added: "The club promised me a lot in summer. Now I'm on bench so I can say they haven't kept those promises."

Salah also revealed his relationship with Slot had broken down entirely: "I said many times before I had a good relationship with the manager and all of a sudden we don't have any relationship."

He claimed he had been "thrown under the bus".

Liverpool manager Arne Slot said he was "surprised" by the comments and is "not weak", adding that he had no clue if Salah had played his last game for the club.

Slot left out Salah from the starting line-up for three consecutive Premier League games, with the Egyptian now not travelling with the squad to Milan for their Champions League fixture.

Speaking on the situation, Lawrenson said: "I feel sorry for the manager. He's under a massive pressure already. We can't keep a clean sheet. We can't win a game.

"I can imagine him driving home and thinking, what the hell's happening here, especially from what happened last season, but just get together and try and sort it out.

He then turned back to Salah and said: "In terms of a player. He's been absolutely brilliant himself."
