The attempted robbery involved ramming a car into the property's electric gates

The estranged wife of Newcastle full-back Kieran Trippier found herself in a terrifying situation when suspected ram-raiders targeted her £2million Cheshire home.

Charlotte Trippier immediately contacted police after intruders apparently used a vehicle to crash into the property's electronic security gates.

The would-be burglars didn't stop there - they also tried to force the gates open using tools.

Charlotte has been living at the mansion following her separation from the England international last year.

The 36-year-old has since taken steps to strengthen security at her home, after recent attempted burglaries were also reported in the area.

A source close to Charlotte revealed she was left deeply shaken by the incident.

"It sent chills down her spine," they said to The Sun, explaining how the attempted break-in appeared to involve ramming the gates before trying to force them with tools.

“She immediately feared the worst, as it looks as if the burglars tried to ram her gates and tried to force them open with tools.

“Charlotte was already on edge after police wrote to residents earlier this year asking them to be vigilant and ensure their homes were secure after a spate of burglaries in the area.

“She’s improved security as she’s worried burglars have been casing her home.”

Charlotte's fears were already heightened after police had written to local residents earlier this year.

Officers had urged homeowners to stay vigilant and secure their properties following several burglaries in the luxurious neighbourhood.

Cheshire Police have confirmed they're looking into the incident at Charlotte's property. Officers are investigating what they've described as "suspicious activity" at the address.

Detectives are now reviewing CCTV footage from neighbouring properties, hopeful that security cameras might have captured anyone hanging around the area before the attempted break-in.

A police spokesman said: "We have received a report of suspicious activity at an address and are making enquiries to establish the circumstances."

The investigation continues as officers work to identify those responsible for the attempted raid on the luxury home.

Charlotte and Kieran tied the knot in 2016 but went their separate ways last year and are now going through divorce proceedings.

Their split came after the former Spurs star was spotted partying with two “mystery women”, and was also snapped cosying up to former Geordie Shore star Chloe Ferry in Ibiza.

Charlotte addressed her 35,000 Instagram followers about the situation, saying she was "fine" but “not ready to talk” about the situation.

"I just wanted to let everyone know that I am fine,” she revealed. “Obviously, I'm not ready to talk about my situation. In time, I will, when I'm comfortable and the time's right.

“I’ve got three young children and I don't want to be putting things out there for them to see.

"You can get through it, once you make the decision. The sparkle does come back [and] you'll get there. You absolutely will get through any sort of breakup or anything similar to what I'm going through."

The couple have three children together, and have been married for nine years.
