The 38-year-old will start a new life in Italy with Cremonese

Jamie Vardy has been mobbed by fans after arriving in Italy, with the 38-year-old poised to join Serie A side Cremonese.

The forward has been a free agent this summer following his decision to leave Leicester behind following a sensational stint at the King Power Stadium.

Vardy bagged 200 goals from 500 appearances for the Foxes and won titles such as the Premier League and FA Cup during his time there.

The former England star was linked with the likes of Wrexham and Feyenoord earlier this summer.

But he's now heading to Italy to play for ambitious Serie A side Cremonese, who have big ambitions for the future.

Footage uploaded by journalist Gianluca Di Marzio shows Vardy being mobbed by fans of his new side.

The veteran stopped to sign scarfs and even arms, with spectators clearly jubilant at his ambitious arrival.

Vardy is set to become the latest English player to experience life abroad, following in the footsteps of some big names.

For decades, English footballers were often reluctant to leave home, preferring the familiarity of the Premier League or the lower divisions.

Yet in recent years, more players have sought opportunities abroad, following in the footsteps of trailblazers who proved there is life and success beyond England.

One of the most famous examples is David Beckham, whose 2003 move from Manchester United to Real Madrid made him one of the first modern English superstars to thrive overseas.

His stint at the Bernabeu, where he was part of the 'Galácticos' era, was followed by groundbreaking moves to LA Galaxy, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain.

Others, like Steve McManaman and Michael Owen, also wore the famous white of Real Madrid, while Gary Lineker enjoyed a prolific spell at Barcelona in the late 1980s, scoring regularly and winning the Copa del Rey.

The Bundesliga has also become a popular destination in recent years.

Jadon Sancho’s breakout at Borussia Dortmund turned him into one of Europe’s hottest young prospects before he joined Manchester United in 2021.

Jude Bellingham followed a similar path, excelling in Germany before joining Real Madrid, where he has already become a central figure.

Chris Smalling’s move to Roma revitalised his career, while Fikayo Tomori has become a key defender for AC Milan, lifting the Serie A title in 2022.

Tammy Abraham also flourished in Rome before injuries disrupted his progress, with the striker currently strutting his stuff for Besiktas.

Younger players are increasingly adventurous too.

Marcus Edwards established himself in Portugal with Sporting Lisbon, while Angel Gomes after leaving Manchester United in 2020.
