The forward struggled during his side's defeat to Borussia Dortmund on Sunday

Fabrizio Romano has claimed Harry Kane is the subject of a 'gentleman's agreement' between Tottenham and Bayern Munich.

However, it's still difficult to see the England international returning to north London - despite his spell in Germany stooping to a new low on Saturday.

Bayern saw their hopes of title glory dealt a substantial blow following a 2-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund.

Thomas Tuchel's side were insipid, with Kane missing several big chances, with Bayern now 13 points behind Bayer Leverkusen at the summit.

Kane only swapped Tottenham for Bayern back in the summer.

Yet despite netting 37 goals across all competitions, his hopes of winning a trophy at the first time of asking are hanging in the balance.

Some fans have called on Kane to return to England.

And Romano, speaking to the Spurs Chat podcast, has now claimed there's a 'gentleman's agreement' in place between Tottenham and Bayern.

“No at the moment I don’t have any confirmation on that," he said when asked about a potential buy-back clause.

"More than a traditional buy-back clause, from what I’m hearing it’s more of a gentleman’s agreement between the clubs where if they decide to sell Harry Kane in the future, Tottenham will be made aware of the decision.

“This is the discussion that took place between Bayern and Tottenham, but it’s not a traditional buy-back clause where you can go there and put down the money and the player is coming back the following day, I don’t think it’s an automatic clause, but more of a gentleman’s agreement.”

Despite Bayern's difficult season, Kane is likely to stay.

He has uprooted his family to Germany and is happy living in the country.

What will be fascinating to see, however, is who manages Kane next season.

Tuchel is on his way out of the club, with the German struggling ever since his appointment last year.

Bayern had been confident of prising Xabi Alonso away from Leverkusen, with the midfielder previously playing for the club.

However, Alonso has revealed he'll be staying at Leverkusen as the club close in on their first-ever Bundesliga title.

Roberto De Zerbi has been linked with a move to Bayern.

Yet he could end up staying at Brighton, while Liverpool are also believed to be big admirers of the Spaniard.

There has also been speculation linking Julian Nagelsmann with a stunning return to the dugout.

How he'd feel about going back to Bayern following his controversial dismissal last season, however, remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, former Arsenal star Ray Parlour has opened up on Kane to GB News.

And he feels the forward will have no regrets about joining Bayern, despite their problems this term.

"No I don’t think so," he said when asked if the England skipper would be regretting his move to Bayern.

"He wasn’t going to leave for another English Club, so Bayern was a good option.

"He continues to break records with his goal scoring, but other parts of the team haven’t been as good as previous years.

"You can’t have regrets and Kane will never give up in his search for trophies."
