The 31-year-old lost Saturday's bout in Manchester

Fabio Wardley emerged from his gruelling WBO heavyweight title defeat to Daniel Dubois on Saturday in remarkably good physical shape, avoiding any trip to hospital despite the punishing nature of the contest.

The 31-year-old from Ipswich surrendered his belt to the 28-year-old Londoner following an enthralling eleven-round battle that many are already tipping as a potential fight of the decade.

Despite the ferocity of the encounter, which saw referee Howard Foster intervene to halt proceedings in the penultimate round, the Suffolk fighter sustained no serious injuries.

Medical professionals who assessed Wardley both ringside and afterwards confirmed he required no hospital treatment whatsoever.

Wardley made a sensational start to the contest, flooring Dubois within the opening ten seconds before sending him to the canvas again in the third round.

However, the former recruitment office worker found himself increasingly troubled as the fight progressed, with the Londoner's experience and power beginning to tell.

A swollen right eye became a concern before the midway point, prompting the ringside doctor to examine the injury on two separate occasions before permitting the bout to continue.

Referee Foster, who faced difficulties managing some of the 18-stone Dubois's physical approach, eventually stepped in to end the contest in round eleven while Wardley remained upright and still throwing punches.

Manager Michael Ofo provided comprehensive details about his fighter's condition following the bout.

"Fabio is completely fine," Ofo told The Sun.

"He was thoroughly examined and assessed on the night, in the ring and behind the scenes."

The manager confirmed that despite the visible damage sustained during the contest, the injuries were superficial in nature.

"Fabio didn't suffer any concussion. He didn't even suffer any breaks or fractures," Ofo explained.

"All the blood and bruising was just cosmetic damage."

Several medical professionals evaluated the Ipswich fighter after the final bell, with none determining that hospital attendance was necessary.

The father-of-one demonstrated remarkable composure in the immediate aftermath of his defeat, leaning over the ropes to reassure his mother that he was unharmed.

Wardley maintained his characteristic sense of humour when speaking about his condition afterwards.

"I am absolutely fine," he said. "I just feel like I have been punched in the face."

The Ipswich supporter is now recuperating at his home surrounded by his proud family, according to his management team.

"He is healthy and at home with his proud family," Ofo confirmed, underlining the fighter's swift recovery from what had been a brutal championship encounter.
