"Yeah it is football isn't it?" he remarked, before explaining his perspective on the incident.
The former Chelsea manager suggested that excessive pressure on match officials might be a deliberate tactic, stating: "A lot of talk was going into the fourth officials here and I think sometimes there are tactics to that."
He maintained his disagreement with Portsmouth's penalty claims, saying: "I haven't seen it again, but John managed to have an incredible viewpoint on it and thought it was a penalty. I didn't think it was at the time and that's the end of it."

Lampard acknowledged the passionate atmosphere at Fratton Park, noting: "Look, I think it's one of those stadiums. The crowd are behind the team and there can be pressure on the referee."
He expressed understanding for emotional reactions whilst distinguishing his own approach: "That's not my style, but I understand it."
