FA chief Mark Bullingham has explained the decision to give Thomas Tuchel a new contract after just 10 matches in the job.
The former Chelsea manager has been in charge of the Three Lions since January last year and won nine of his games since then.
Tuchel initially only signed an 18-month contract, having been reluctant to commit for the long-term.
However, the 52-year-old has enjoyed his time in the Wembley dugout so far and will now be in charge for the European Championships in 2028.
England previously made a mistake with Fabio Capello, who signed a fresh deal before suffering a disaster at the 2010 World Cup.
But Bullingham is confident that things will be different this time around.
“I am delighted Thomas has committed to stay with us through to the EUROs in 2028," he said.

"He was the right person for the job when he joined us for the World Cup campaign, and has only strengthened his reputation across the qualifiers.
"We know the players are right behind him, and the togetherness within the group is there for all to see.
“There is simply no better candidate available in world football.

“In Thomas, Anthony and the wider team, we have a perfect blend of English coaching and international expertise.
"Their full focus remains on doing as well as possible this summer, and by securing them early for 2028, we have taken away the potential distraction of contract renegotiations around the tournament.”
In a letter posted on the FA's official website, Bellingham also shed more light on the decision-making behind the scenes.
"Thomas is a winner who has achieved on the biggest stages; a winner who loves English football and is enjoying the rhythm of the international game after all his club success," he stated.
"Feedback from our players on his coaching and support team has been excellent, both on and off the pitch.
Thomas Tuchel has won nine of his 10 matches as England manager so far | PA"Some will ask, ‘why not wait until after the World Cup’? The reality is that for any fixed-term role in any industry, people will consider their future prior to its ending.
"We have a world class coach, doing a great job and the opportunity arose to secure him for a further tournament.
"We have taken that opportunity and now everyone has clarity, as we have previously had heading into major tournaments.
"Our experience with Sarina Wiegman and Lee Carsley with the senior women and men’s under-21s respectively is that having clarity on the future before a major tournament allowed both to fully focus on the task at hand – helping us to return with trophies from both EUROs last summer.
"Winning tournaments is hard, and this summer will be challenging in terms of opponents, schedule and climate.
"However, we believe we have the right coaching team in place to give us the best possible chance to become only the third European team to win a men's World Cup outside Europe. Thomas and his team are completely focused on that ambition."
