The 40-year-old cut a dejected figure at full time

Cristiano Ronaldo displayed unusual behaviour after Al-Nassr's elimination from the AFC Champions League on Wednesday night.

The 40-year-old superstar was visibly distraught in the centre circle following his team's 3-2 defeat to Japanese side Kawasaki.

Ronaldo remained alone on the pitch after the final whistle, seemingly unable to process the semi-final exit.

In a clip that has gone viral, the Portugal international repeatedly shrugged and appeared to be arguing with himself.

He gestured with his hands and seemed to be speaking to himself as he struggled to contain his frustrations.

After this brief period of self-dialogue, Ronaldo put his hands on his hips and looked skyward before eventually wandering off the pitch.

The Saudi side's exit came despite their dominance throughout the match, mustering an impressive 21 shots and controlling 74 per cent of possession.

Al-Nassr, managed by Stefano Pioli, were unable to convert their statistical advantage into victory against the Japanese outfit.

The defeat was particularly bitter as Al-Nassr are now languishing in third place in the Saudi Pro League and have also exited the King's Cup.

Ronaldo missed a crucial opportunity in the final seconds of the match that could have changed the outcome.

After rounding the Kawasaki goalkeeper, he failed to connect with his effort under pressure.

Yamaguchi, the Kawasaki keeper, also denied an increasingly desperate Ronaldo twice during injury time as the Japanese side secured their famous win.

Fans were left bemused by Ronaldo's actions, with one commenting: 'They knocked Ronaldo out of the AFC Champions League and my G started speaking to ghosts!'

Another supporter added: 'This guy is so dramatic.'

However, others showed more sympathy towards the football icon, with one simply stating: 'I'm sad,' whilst another responded: 'TOUGH,' accompanied by a crying emoji.

Despite the disappointment, Ronaldo attempted to stay upbeat with a message on social media.

'Sometimes the dream has to wait,' he wrote. 'I'm proud of this team and everything we gave on the pitch.'

He also thanked supporters, adding: 'Thank you to all the fans who believed in us and stood by us every step of the way. Your support means the world.'

The elimination from the competition means Al-Nassr are likely to end the season without any silverware.

This continues a disappointing trend for Ronaldo, who has claimed just one trophy since his high-profile move to Saudi Arabia in December 2022.

Despite his personal success with 33 goals in 37 games this season, team honours have remained elusive for the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.
