Chelsea have withdrawn from the pursuit of Antoine Semenyo after making an initial enquiry about the Bournemouth winger on Tuesday.

The Blues checked the conditions required to complete a deal for the 25-year-old but have decided against taking their interest any further.

David Ornstein of The Athletic confirmed that the west London club will not be proceeding with a move for the Ghana international.

The enquiry came just days before the January transfer window opens, with Semenyo emerging as one of the most sought-after attackers in the Premier League this winter.

The club's decision stems from confidence in Enzo Maresca's current attacking options.

Instead of following up their enquiry with a formal bid, the Blues intend to focus on rewarding existing players across their squad.

Wage demands also played a significant role in Chelsea's decision to step back from the deal.

Semenyo's salary is likely to be determined by competing offers from interested clubs.

Chelsea have made clear they will not deviate from their established wage structure for any player.

Semenyo's release clause stands at £65million, comprising a guaranteed £60million fee plus £5million in achievable add-ons.

Clubs have a limited window to activate this clause, which expires on January 10.

This deadline is designed to give Bournemouth sufficient time to secure a replacement.

Manchester United are reported to be planning an all-out effort to sign the forward when the window opens, having previously approached the Cherries in the summer with an unsuccessful bid.

Manchester City and Liverpool have also made their interest known, with Liverpool's sporting director Richard Hughes having originally brought Semenyo to Bournemouth from Bristol City in a deal worth around £12million.

The Ghanaian forward has enjoyed an outstanding campaign, netting eight goals and providing three assists in 16 Premier League appearances this season.

His form follows last season's tally of 11 goals, establishing him as one of the division's most exciting wide players.

Tottenham had registered their interest in Semenyo, but the forward is understood to have no desire to move to Spurs in January.

Should Manchester City succeed in signing him, Tottenham could turn their attention back to Savinho, who was a target for them during the summer window.

Bristol City are entitled to 20 per cent of any profit made on their former player.
