Sean Dyche urges 'common sense' as Nottingham Forest boss refuses to weigh players like Pep Guardiola

Sean Dyche responded with characteristic wit when questioned about whether he would adopt Pep Guardiola's approach of putting Manchester City players on the scales after the Christmas break.
Guardiola has confirmed his squad will step onto the scales upon returning to training, a measure designed to ensure fitness levels have been maintained throughout the holiday period.
But Dyche, who manages Nottingham Forest, won't be emulating that approach.
"Is Pep weighing himself, do you think?" the Nottingham Forest manager quipped.

Rather than implementing strict monitoring measures, Dyche is placing his faith in his squad's professionalism during the festive period.
"As I always say to the players, on your passport it says professional footballer. They're not just footballers," he explained.
The Forest boss made clear he has no issue with his squad tucking into a traditional Christmas meal.

Forest face Guardiola's side at the City Ground on Saturday, with kick-off scheduled for 12.30pm.
The fixture comes at a challenging moment for Dyche's team, who suffered a narrow 1-0 loss away to Fulham on Monday.

The upcoming encounter with City, therefore, carries significant weight as Forest look to put distance between themselves and the bottom three.
Dyche acknowledged that contemporary football demands greater scrutiny of player metrics and conditioning.
While describing himself as someone who values such data, he stressed the importance of not becoming fixated on statistics and weight measurements.
"Sometimes, the psychology is as important as anything with athletes and, within reason, you want them to enjoy their Christmas Day. I certainly do. It's a big part of their life," he said.
The manager also indicated he maintains awareness of his players' physical condition without excessive intervention.

Forest's players have been given Christmas Day off, though Dyche expects them to exercise sensible judgement during their time away from the training ground.
The manager expressed confidence that modern academy graduates arrive at senior level with comprehensive knowledge of proper nutrition and self-care.
"These players now coming through the academy, they should all know - and they certainly do - what to eat, when to eat, how to look after yourselves, good sleep and all those sorts of things," he noted.
With the Manchester City clash looming just three days after Christmas, it'll be intriguing to see how the match plays out.
City are chasing Arsenal down at the top of the Premier League table, with Guardiola's men just two points behind Arsenal at the summit.
