The gesture comes after Bury previously faced financial difficulties in 2019

Bury Football Club has extended a heartfelt gesture to Morecambe supporters by offering free entry to their opening Northern Premier League West fixture this Saturday against Newcastle Town.

The invitation comes after Morecambe’s suspension from the National League in July, which left the club unable to kick off its 2024–25 campaign as planned.

They had been scheduled to play Boston United on the same day.

In a statement released this week, Bury described the move as a "gesture of solidarity and footballing friendship," drawing on their own experience with footballing hardship.

The club was expelled from the English Football League in 2019 and has since rebuilt from the ground up under the Bury FC name.

Morecambe fans can gain free admission to the game by presenting their season ticket at the turnstiles or simply by wearing club colours or a badge to show their support.

“We at Bury Football Club have watched with great sympathy and understanding as you navigate uncertain times," the club said in an official statement.

“As a club that knows all too well what it feels like to face challenges off the pitch, we want you to know: you are not alone.

"Whether you're in need of a temporary football fix, a place to feel connected, or simply want to enjoy a matchday with fellow fans who understand — our gates and hearts are open to you.

"Wear your colours. Bring your voices. You'll be warmly welcomed as part of our football family.”

The show of support comes as uncertainty continues to cloud Morecambe’s future.

Last week, Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy publicly called on club owner Jason Whittingham to step down and complete a sale.

A potential takeover deal involving the Panjab Warriors, who have aligned with Morecambe’s minority shareholders, has yet to materialise.

In a recent joint statement, the group warned that the club could be forced to shut down as early as Monday if a solution isn’t found.

It remains unclear whether a deal can be struck in time to preserve Morecambe’s place in the National League. For now, Bury’s message offers a small but powerful reminder of the football community’s ability to stand together in difficult times.
