The Portugal international is being eyed by Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal

Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal are prepared to offer Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes more than £1-million-a week, according to reports.

The Riyadh-based club have identified the Portuguese midfielder as a leading target after Mohamed Salah opted to stay at Liverpool.

Al-Hilal are believed to have held exploratory talks with Fernandes' representatives and are ready to offer him four to five times his existing £250,000-a-week salary at Old Trafford, according to the Telegraph.

Fernandes, 30, has been a standout performer for United this season despite the team's struggles, contributing 19 goals and 18 assists in all competitions.

The Portugal international revealed he had offers to leave United last summer but chose to stay following talks with the club.

He subsequently extended his contract until 2027, with the option of a further 12-month extension.

Fernandes has been a player of interest to Saudi clubs for at least the past year - but United maintain that Fernandes is not for sale this summer.

The club insists he remains a key part of Ruben Amorim's rebuilding plans at Old Trafford.

However, it remains to be seen whether United could resist a substantial offer for the influential midfielder if Al-Hilal were to receive encouragement from Fernandes that he might be open to a move.

This would present a difficult decision for United given Fernandes turns 31 in September.

Fernandes' Portugal teammates João Cancelo and Rúben Neves currently play for Al-Hilal, potentially adding to the appeal of any move.

United are targeting several attacking players this summer, including Wolves forward Matheus Cunha, Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo and Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap.

Amorim will need to sell players to raise funds for his transfer targets as he looks to revamp the squad.

United's budget will depend on whether they secure Champions League qualification through winning the Europa League.

Amorim's side are well-positioned to reach the final, holding a commanding 3-0 lead over Athletic Bilbao ahead of Thursday's semi-final second leg at Old Trafford.

If successful, they would face either Tottenham Hotspur or Bodo/Glimt in the final.

Champions League qualification would provide valuable additional revenue for United's transfer plans.

Speaking before the first leg against Athletic Bilbao, Fernandes downplayed the significance of potential Europa League success.

"I wouldn't say it's a reward, I think it will just be successful in terms of the Europa League," the Portuguese midfielder said.

"It's very important to do that, to get the silverware this season. But it won't save anything."

The potential move would represent one of the most lucrative deals in football history, with Fernandes potentially earning over £50million annually if he was to accept Al-Hilal's offer.

United face a delicate balancing act between retaining their captain's services and potentially cashing in on a substantial transfer fee.

The situation highlights the continuing financial pull of the Saudi Pro League as it targets established Premier League stars.
