Former Arsenal star Tomas Rosicky has been hospitalised with heart issues, his club Sparta Prague has confirmed.

The Czech icon, who is 44 years old, suffered the health scare last week whilst working in his role as sporting director.

Rosicky was immediately taken to intensive care at a hospital in Prague after experiencing heart-related problems. The former midfielder, who spent a decade at Arsenal and was earlier this year linked with replacing transfer chief Edu Gaspar, has since been released from hospital and is now recovering at home.

Sparta Prague confirmed the news in a statement, saying: "Our sporting director, Tomas Rosicky, was unexpectedly hospitalised in the intensive care unit last Tuesday due to heart-related issues."

The club added that neither Rosicky nor they would disclose further details about his condition. They confirmed no surgery was required.

"Until this official announcement, only a few closest members of the club and his family were aware of the situation," the statement continued.

"Given the seriousness of the matter, both the club and Tomas chose to communicate publicly only after he was released into home care late last week."

Rosicky himself addressed his condition, saying: "As a player and sporting director, I've always gone all in. Full effort, no hesitation.

"But this situation has shown me that I need to take better care of myself."

The former Czech international admitted that "poor lifestyle habits, lack of physical activity, and family predispositions" had contributed to his heart issues.

Despite the serious nature of his condition, Rosicky remained optimistic about his recovery prospects.

"The good news is that I'm expected to make a full recovery, though I'm currently unable to carry out the demanding responsibilities of a sporting director," he said.

Rosicky began his career at Sparta Prague in the 1998/99 season before spending six years at Borussia Dortmund. He joined Arsenal in 2006 for £7million, where he scored 28 goals in 247 appearances and won the FA Cup in 2014.

His time in London was significantly affected by injuries. In 2016, he returned to Sparta Prague, making just 13 more appearances before retiring in 2018 and taking up his current sporting director role.

Rosicky assured fans he would remain in touch with colleagues during his recovery.

"We've always operated as a team. We have a clear vision, strategy, and structured processes in place. The guys will take care of it," he said.
