Jermaine Pennant believes this could finally be their year

At the current moment in time, Arsenal look like favourites for the Premier League title.

Sunday's 4-1 victory over Tottenham was a huge statement of intent, with the Gunners crushing their fierce rivals at the Emirates Stadium to move six points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

After years of near-misses, Arsenal appear closer than ever before to finally ending their wait for the crown. It has taken years of building under Mikel Arteta but no side looks to be on their level, as Sunday's mauling showed.

And former Gunners star Jermaine Pennant, speaking exclusively to GB News via MightyTips, believes they're on the brink of achieving something 'special' after over two decades of hurt.

"He has spent a lot of money, but, he is doing a good job," the former Gunners winger said when asked if Arteta is under more pressure to deliver than ever before.

"Trophies is what you get remembered by and now is the time he needs to deliver for Arsenal, they won’t get a better chance with the quality they have in the team this year and the depth of the squad with cover at almost every position.

"So let’s see what happens, but you look at the progress and Arsenal are on the brink of something special, it’s just getting over the line to actually do it."

Many of Arsenal's rivals have struggled for consistency this term.

Manchester City were beaten by Newcastle on Saturday night, with Pep Guardiola cutting a frustrated and angry figure at the full time whistle.

Chelsea have blown hot and cold, Liverpool have regressed to the point they're no longer title contenders and Manchester United, despite a recent resurgence, still have plenty of work to do.

Pennant thinks the signs are positive for Arsenal.

The 42-year-old, who made 26 appearances for the north London side, added: "It looks very good from where we stand now.

"Top of the League, not conceding, a deep squad of hugely talented players and a squad that is fully united and where each player knows their role when they play.

"Defensively, Arsenal have been strong. But this year, they seem to have taken it to a new level.

"Both full-backs are playing well and also contributing to the attack as well. Forwards wise, they are scoring from all over the pitch as well and [Kai] Havertz is still to come back [from injury].

"I would say no [they have no weaknesses]. Just they haven't won the league and mentality could be the only weakness, if you had to look at it now.

"This team looks ready, but it’s only 12 games gone and there is so much football to play.

"They are such an efficient team and can only get better as players come back into the team who have been injured.

"Viktor Gyokeres is getting better the more he plays as well and is a handful for defenders, so he will be looking to add to his tally of goals as the weeks go on."

Arsenal are next in action against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday night (8pm).

Bayern, like their rivals, have won all four of their European games so far this season.

Whether the Gunners can secure victory against Harry Kane and Co remains to be seen.
