The Reds lost 3-0 at Anfield on Wednesday night to make it six defeats from their last seven matches across all competitions

There's currently 'no chance' of Arne Slot being sacked as Liverpool manager, despite pressure on the Dutchman intensifying following their 3-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Crystal Palace at Anfield on Wednesday night.

The Reds opted to deploy a weakened starting XI for the contest, despite their poor form in recent weeks.

But that decision failed spectacularly, with Palace scoring three times without reply to end Liverpool's hopes of securing the trophy.

Slot has come in for plenty of criticism in the time since. Despite winning the Premier League title last term - and spending big on players such as Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz - his side's regression has been startling to see.

Yet while the Dutchman needs to start winning again fast, the BBC say there's currently 'no chance' that he'll be relieved of his duties.

Slot still has plenty of credit in the bank following last season's exploits, where he guided Liverpool to title glory at the first time of asking following his arrival as a replacement for Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool's owners are described as 'measured' characters that won't be rushed into hasty decisions, despite their inconsistent performances.

The Reds started the campaign well, winning crucial fixtures against the likes of Arsenal and Newcastle.

Ever since a 2-1 loss to Palace at Selhurst Park at the end of September, however, the wheels have come off.

They've proceeded to lose to the likes of Galatasaray, Chelsea, Manchester United, Brentford and Palace again, with fans and pundits alike astonished by their fall from grace.

Meanwhile, Slot has been criticised for choosing to go with a weakened side for last night's contest.

However, speaking in his post-match press conference, the Liverpool boss defended that call.

"It is always a blow to lose a game of football, especially if it leads to going out of a competition," said the Liverpool boss.

"I can come up with arguments or reasons, but none of them will be enough to go to that standard because at Liverpool losing six out of seven is always too much.

"If I look at our performance against Brentford, to use that as an example, two days after we played [Eintracht] Frankfurt away, I saw there a team that maybe struggled with playing three games in seven days.

"Again, not an excuse to lose that game of football, but it is not a complete surprise to me if I see some of the struggles some players have had in pre-season and players that came from different leagues and it is a new challenge for them to play at Premier League and Champions League level in three games in seven days.

"So, again, in two days we play [Aston] Villa. And the last time I played a player we thought was ready for their programme but it turned out maybe he wasn't was Alexander Isak when he went out with an injury [at Frankfurt].

"But it is the same selection I did tonight as I did last season in rounds like this.

"There are many reasons, maybe, why we've lost six out of seven – none of them are good enough to accept losing so many.

"Last time we played Southampton, Giovanni Leoni went out with an injury in a game like this and we got the red card for Hugo Ekitike after two yellows.

"I think at this moment in time, with only 15 or 16 players available – and I am talking then about players of our squad available – and to add to that this club has always used this competition to use their academy players as well – the non-starters and the academy players – it felt to me as the right decision and I haven't changed my opinion about that after the result because with our starters we haven't been able to win a lot from Palace as well."

Liverpool are next in action against Aston Villa on Saturday (8pm).

Unai Emery's side experienced a difficult start to the campaign, with failing to score in their first four games.

They've since bounced back, however, with Villa's last result a 1-0 victory over Manchester City on Sunday.
