The Reds will be hoping to win Sunday's blockbuster fixture at Old Trafford

Mohamed Salah is progressing well from his muscle problem and remains on course to feature for Liverpool before departing the club this summer following nine seasons at Anfield.

The 33-year-old Egyptian forward will not be available for Sunday's clash with Manchester United, but manager Arne Slot anticipates having him back for the closing stages of the campaign.

Salah sustained the injury during last Saturday's match against Crystal Palace, prompting concerns that his final appearance in a Liverpool shirt may have already occurred.

However, the club has confirmed the setback is minor, with an expected return during one of the remaining four fixtures.

Slot praised his forward's dedication to recovery, noting that Salah consistently demonstrates exceptional commitment whether fit or sidelined.

"As we know for Mo, he is always working hard when he is fit and when he is injured to be back," the Liverpool manager said.

"He is usually fitter than others, so we expect him back for the final part of the season. Not for tomorrow."

The Dutchman expressed considerable relief that the injury proved to be relatively minor, allowing Salah the opportunity to bid farewell properly to supporters.

"It is always a big relief that his injury is minor to play for us and the World Cup. Any time a player who deserved a send-off, it's great news," Slot added.

Liverpool's focus now turns to securing Champions League football for next season, with the Reds needing just five points from their final four Premier League matches to guarantee a top-five finish.

The season concludes at Anfield on May 24 when Brentford visit, a fixture that could provide the perfect setting for an emotional send-off should Salah recover in time.

The Egyptian is hopeful of being fit by that date at the latest, giving supporters the chance to pay tribute to a player who has become one of the club's most celebrated figures during his near-decade on Merseyside.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are hopeful of having Alisson Becker available again soon, though the Brazilian goalkeeper has yet to rejoin full training with the squad.

Freddie Woodman will continue between the posts against Manchester United, with Giorgi Mamardashvili also unavailable through injury.

"It's a bonus when every player comes back, our injury list is longer and longer," Slot said.

"Alisson hasn't trained with us yet, I will find out today if he can today or start of next week."

The manager emphasised the club's cautious approach to returning players, noting that goalkeepers present different challenges compared to outfield players when recovering from injury.
