The pair had a great relationship on the pitch at Newcastle

Anthony Gordon has broken his silence on the Alexander Isak transfer saga, after the Swede completed his move to Premier League champions Liverpool on deadline day.

The pair developed a strong partnership at St James' Park, and formed two thirds of an electric forward line that saw Newcastle qualify for the Champions League on two occasions.

And Isak could have gone down a Newcastle legend, revered across Tyneside as one of the greatest strikers to play for the club. Unfortunately, his forceful route out the exit door means he will not be remembered quite so fondly.

Despite this, Gordon made sure to make his feelings clear to fans that the good memories will always remain at the forefront of his mind when it comes to his relationship with his former teammate.

On his Instagram story, Gordon wrote: "Regardless of the situation & what's gone on. It's been a pleasure a pleasure to play with you.

"One of the best chemistries I've had on the pitch and more importantly a great person and teammate.

"I wish you nothing but the best brother."

The pair spent two-and-a-half years together at St James' Park after Gordon joined the club from Everton in January 2023.

But this summer Isak had decided that a move away from the club was the best for his career.

After communicating to the club on his desire to leave and join Liverpool, Newcastle were adamant they would keep him.

A 39-day stand-off ensued, with Isak refusing to train with the club until he got his move. The 25-year-old even released a bombshell statement claiming that "promises are broken" and "trust is lost" in a final push.

Newcastle remained insistent that the striker would remain at the club until deadline day, when they accepted a British record £125million fee for the striker.

In his post on social media, Gordon acknowledged the mess that the saga had caused, but wished his former teammate the best on his new chapter.

After a window of chaos, Newcastle were eventually able to get their replacements for the departing Isak.

Nick Woltemade joined from German side Stuttgart in a club-record £69m deal, and Eddie Howe's side confirmed the £55m capture of Yoane Wissa from Brentford on deadline day.

Gordon will be hoping he can replicate the chemistry he shared on the pitch with Isak, as Newcastle prepare for another season with Champions League football.
