The Australian is already facing heavy pressure after a winless start

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis faces a crucial decision over Ange Postecoglou's future during the upcoming international break, with Sunday's trip to Newcastle potentially his final opportunity to save his job.

The Australian manager must end a six-match winless run at St James' Park or risk dismissal after their next game away at Newcastle, according to the Daily Mail.

Owner Evangelos Marinakis witnessed Thursday evening's 3-2 home loss to FC Midtjylland in the Europa League, where supporters voiced their displeasure with hostile chants directed at the under-fire boss.

The defeat marked another disappointing result for Postecoglou, who has failed to secure a victory since his appointment on September 9.

The City Ground atmosphere turned poisonous as Danish side Midtjylland spoiled Forest's first European home fixture in 29 years.

Supporters directed "You're getting sacked in the morning" chants at Postecoglou whilst some called for his predecessor Nuno Espirito Santo, who was sacked from his role last month, with the Portuguese then joining West Ham.

The visitors dominated through Ousmane Diao and Mads Bech's first-half set-piece goals, with Dan Ndoye briefly equalising between them.

Valdemar Andreasen's breakaway strike sealed victory, triggering the evening's loudest jeers from the 29,323 attendance.

Chris Wood's late penalty offered little consolation after two disallowed efforts, leaving Forest's European return thoroughly soured.

Postecoglou acknowledged hearing the hostile reception from supporters following the match.

"I heard it. They're fans, they want to see their team win, and they're entitled to their opinion," he told TNT Sports.

The 60-year-old admitted his disappointment with the performance, citing poor defending at crucial moments. "Really disappointing. Just really, really poor goals we conceded in the first half," he said.

"Just got to keep going. There is no hiding in the sport we're in. Got to keep your head up and recover. We have a tough game against Newcastle at the weekend."

Forest haven't tasted victory since the season's opening day, leaving them vulnerable to dropping into the relegation zone depending on weekend results.

The former Tottenham manager arrived with the objective of securing consecutive Europa League triumphs, which would guarantee Champions League qualification and satisfy Marinakis's monumental ambitions.

Postecoglou's dismissal from Spurs came despite Europa League success last term, with the club's 17th-place Premier League standing deemed unacceptable.

His Forest tenure has produced occasional promising moments, including the opening period against Real Betis and portions of Burnley's 1-1 stalemate, but performances have largely fallen short of expectations.
