Red Bull have released an official statement confirming the sacking of Chistian Horner after 20 years at the helm.

In an official statement, Red Bull managing director Oliver Mintzlaff said: "Red Bull has released Christian Horner from his operational duties with effect from today (Wednesday 9 July 2025) and has appointed Laurent Mekies as CEO of Red Bull racing.

"We would like to thank Christian Horner for his exceptional work over the last 20 years.

"With his tireless commitment, experience, expertise and innovative thinking, he has been instrumental in establishing Red Bull Racing as one of the most successful and attractive teams in Formula 1.

"Thank you for everything, Christian, and you will forever remain an important part of our team history."

The departure marks the end of Formula One's longest-serving team principal, but has not been without its controversy, particularly in recent months.

Horner’s dismissal comes 17 months after he was accused by a female colleague of “inappropriate behaviour”.

Horner was twice exonerated of the claims by the Formula One team’s parent company, Red Bull GmBH.

Additionally, Red Bull has seen several figures leave over the past two years, including sporting director Jonathan Wheatley, who left to Sauber, and designer Adrian Newey to Aston Martin.

Despite this, Horner has overseen two dominant Red Bull spells and eight Drivers' Championships.

The team won four Drivers' Championships in a row between 2010-2013, with German Sebastian Vettel claiming all four.

Similarly, Max Verstappen won four consecutively between 2021-2024.

Additionally, since Horner's arrival in 2005, Red Bull have six Constructors' Championships.

However, this year has been a different story with McLaren dominating both tables.

Red Bull currently sit 288 points away from McLaren in the Constructors' Championships, with Ferrari and Mercedes also ahead.

Verstappen, who has been heavily linked with a move to Mercedes in recent weeks, also sits 69 points off Oscar Piastri, who leads the Drivers' Championship at the halfway point in the season.

Horner's final race was at Silverstone, where he saw Verstappen enter in pole position.

However, after an early spin due to the wet conditions, the Dutch racer slipped to fifth marking et another disappointing result in a discouraging campaign.
