Fans raged online at the unexpected expense

Fans have reacted after a video has gone viral showcasing the "rip-off" pricing for parking at the British Grand Prix.

A TikTok video exposing the steep parking charges at Silverstone during the British Grand Prix has attracted 900,000 views, igniting fierce debate about the affordability of attending Formula 1 events.

The footage, posted on TikTok, shows a car park sign detailing daily fees that reach £130 for weekend days. The viral clip has drawn thousands of critical comments from viewers shocked by the additional expense on top of race tickets.

The video's extraordinary reach struck a chord with motorsport enthusiasts who feel increasingly priced out of attending major racing events at the iconic Northamptonshire circuit.

The overwhelming response to the video reflects widespread frustration amongst Formula 1 enthusiasts about escalating costs.

"There's me thinking I couldn't afford the actual tickets when actually I couldn't even afford the parking!" one viewer commented.

Another frustrated fan declared: "Exactly why I won't go to Silverstone F1, but will go abroad to watch F1."

The financial burden has become a significant barrier for many supporters.

"Silverstone is now just a rip off. I don't know how people can afford it, when they have no money to pay bills etc," wrote one commenter.

Others warned about the long-term consequences of such pricing strategies.

"That's actually insane and totally unjustified. Things just die on the vine in this country because of price gouging and corporate greed. In a few years they'll be complaining that the crowds aren't as big any more and they'll wonder why," one TikTok user criticised.

The parking charges revealed in the viral video show a tiered pricing structure across the four-day event. Thursday and Friday attract fees of £80 per day, whilst Saturday and Sunday command £130 daily.

These costs come on top of race tickets that already range from £70 to £329 for single-day entry. The British Grand Prix weekend begins on Thursday with opportunities for fans to meet team members and explore the circuit's museum.

Friday features practice sessions, followed by Saturday's qualifying before Sunday's main race. For enthusiasts attending the full four-day experience, parking alone could add £420 to their expenses.

The sign captured in the video clearly states that payment is required before exiting the venue, leaving visitors with no option but to pay the substantial fees.

Despite the steep charges, some viewers offered practical alternatives for future visitors.

"If you book online in advance its £50 a day or £150 for the full weekend," one person suggested.

Another shared their cost-saving experience: "Local schools charged £50 for the weekend, which was about a 30 minute walk and much quicker than queuing out of the car park."

These suggestions highlight potential savings of up to £270 compared to the on-the-day parking rates.

The 30-minute walk from school car parks also promises to avoid the notorious traffic delays that plague Silverstone during race weekends.

Yet one commenter noted resignedly: "Must put a lot of people off, but they still seem to have lots of cars there, so people must be willing to pay those extortionate prices, fair enough. Guess I'll never go to Silverstone."
