The seven-time champion has yet to live up to expectations at Ferrari

Lewis Hamilton has revealed that he sees his time at Ferrari in two different lights, after struggling through the first half of the season.

Ferrari had started the year confident that they could contend for both titles. Their enthusiasm was well-founded as they took the fight for the constructors' championship down to the last race against McLaren last season.

This year has not lived up to the expectations set at the start of the season, with only a handful of podiums and no Grand Prix wins.

Ferrari has slid back to potentially the third fastest team on the grid, with McLaren seemingly out of reach for the whole field.

The Briton claims: “Everything generally outside of the racetrack is going amazing, I couldn't be happier in that respect.

"And I'm working as hard as I can to make sure that's reflected also in my results. I want to be at the front, obviously."

Hamilton has continually insisted it would take him time to get used to his new surroundings and that he is still adapting.

He reassured fans: "I think it looks a lot worse outside than it probably is on the inside, It's my first half of the year in a new team.

"It's interesting to see how different teams work and operate. How they set the car up is completely different.

"And I'm having discussions with engineers to change things… There's a certain way they like to work, and it's: 'Hold on a second – that doesn't actually make sense. Like, this is what I've done for the last 17, 18 years here (in F1), and it's worked in a lot of them.'

Hamilton revealed he is constantly communicating with his engineers as he aims to work with the team better.

He continued: “So, getting those things to consistently work with the team and making sure you're working in a constructive way to make changes.

"I'm constantly battling the engineers, asking them questions. Because they set things up and are like: 'This is how we always do it' and I'm like: 'What about this?'

"So we work on trying things and, bit by bit, we are making progress. We're improving our qualifying from Monaco onwards, which is positive."

Ferrari did bring a new floor to Austria, which Hamilton sees as a step in the right direction.

Hamilton said: "The positive is that we are making improvements. We are progressing.

"Whether or not you see that, that's not necessarily important to me personally. I feel like I'm making progress. I feel like we are making progress, and that's what's most important."
