The pair are set to be united at Ferrari from 2025

Charles Leclerc has already given his opinion on whether he would like to be team-mates with Lewis Hamilton.

Hamilton is set to leave Mercedes and join Ferrari in 2025 and Leclerc previously said he would 'love' to unite with the Brit.

News emerged on Thursday morning that 2024 will be Hamilton's final season with Mercedes after more than a decade.

He has won six of his seven world titles since joining the England-based team in 2013 and still has two years remaining on his contract.

Hamilton only signed a new deal with Mercedes last August but he looks set to cut that short and leave after the upcoming campaign.

The 39-year-old hasn't won a race in the last two seasons and has been left in his wake by Red Bull's Max Verstappen.

Rumours circulated in 2023 that Hamilton had held talks with Ferrari over a potential move to the Italian giants.

Leclerc was asked at the time whether he would welcome teaming up with the experienced driver.

The Monegasque star said he was happy alongside Carlos Sainz at Ferrari but admitted it would be any driver's dream to be partnered with Hamilton.

Leclerc said: "If I say yes, I imagine it being the title of every newspaper.

"Lewis is such an incredible driver, has achieved so much in the sport, so I think anybody on the grid would love to have Lewis as a team-mate, as everybody would learn a lot from him.

"But again, I’m happy where I am, and with Carlos, it’s a great relationship too."

Leclerc recently put pen to paper on a new contract with Ferrari but Sainz's future with the team looks bleak as his current deal expires at the end of this year.

Ferrari were the only team other than Red Bull to win an F1 race last season.

It was Sainz, not Leclerc, who won in Singapore last September as one of just three podium finishes for the Spaniard.

Leclerc finished fifth in the driver standings, two places and 28 points behind Hamilton.

Hamilton revealed late last year that he had held conversations with Ferrari but there was no official offer.

He told Swiss outlet Blick: "Okay, we've definitely had a few casual conversations. I know a lot of good people there. But I never felt ready to move to Italy."

Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur also played down the discussions with Hamilton.

He said: "I’m talking with Lewis each week or each month for 20 years. I can’t say that I didn’t speak with Lewis at one stage because we are always in contact.

"And that’s true with most of the grid because most of the grid drove for me in the past and it’s not because of that.

"I had a discussion in Baku, in the paddock we had a discussion with Lewis and then it started to go everywhere but if he signed a contract with me each time that we spoke in the past then it would have cost me a fortune!"
