The Nuke stormed to a record sixth nightly win in Sheffield on Thursday night

It was another night with more records broken for teenage sensation Luke Littler, as he topped the Premier League table going into the playoffs for the second year running.

The 18-year-old extended his record of nightly wins to six, as well as his points record to 45 and surpassed his 180s tally for the competition.

Remarkably, after the final where he beat rival Luke Humphries 6-3, The Nuke described the win as a “warm-up”.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Littler said: "It is a tough format but I have got myself through. I am very happy to be top again and breaking all these records once again.

"I am very ready. I am ready for the semi-final. It is the O2, I have been there before, I have won a semi-final there before but so has Gerwyn [Price]. I am looking forward to it.”

When asked about his rivalry with Humphries, Littler replied: “In the Premier League there is always points up for grabs, there is always the £10,000 bonus, so we are always going to be playing for something.”

"For myself, it is probably just a warm-up."

The answer took pundit Wayne Mardle by surprise, who exclaimed: “Oh, right! I was not [expecting that]!”

The nonchalance of Littler is a testament to his natural darting ability, as he is able to swipe the world no 1 to the side in a “warm-up” game.

Littler has previously explained that, since it was confirmed he had qualified for the playoffs, he would experiment with his darts, and eagle-eyed fans noticed last night that he changed his flights from his usual dark theme to a lighter silver.

The change worked wonders, as The Nuke missed just one dart at the double in the opening two games against Stephen Bunting and Nathan Aspinall.

His terrific form continued through to the final against Humphries, where he produced 155 and 170 checkouts, meaning he had an astounding eight ton-plus checkouts on the night.

The pair are quickly creating a generational rivalry. They have met in the final five times in the Premier League this year, and between them have won nine of the 16 nights.

After the game, Mardle weighed in on the rivalry: “He [Littler] said it was a warm-up, which is fascinating in itself.

"But, I believe, and I have listened to Phil Taylor and Michael [van Gerwen] with Raymond van Barneveld, it’s like every win over your rival means something.

Despite their rivalry at the oche, Luke Littler and Luke Humphries are known to have a good friendship away from it

“If you start to build up a head-to-head lead and you both know it, that’s something. If in any way you can feel a little bit better and make them feel worse, that has to be a positive.

“Luke [Littler] said [the final] was rubbish - it was far from rubbish, but it really is a case of I believe that every time they play these games it means something.”

The world No1 and No2 have faced off eight times this year, with Littler winning five compared to Humphries’ three victories - so it’s pretty close.

Nevertheless, Littler branding last night’s victory as a “warm-up” may come as a shock to some supporters, but the matter of the fact is it is probably true - he barely broke a sweat.

He maintains focus on retaining his Premier League title at the O2 next week, and if last night was anything to go by, Littler has a pretty good chance of doing so.
