The Welshman has taken to social media

Gerwyn Price has appealed to fans for help in retrieving a coat he says was stolen, launching the tongue-in-cheek hashtag “#findthecoat” as he attempts to track down the missing item in the midst of his preparations for the PDC World Darts Championship.

The Welshman’s social media request comes as he enters a pivotal stage of his season, with the veteran targeting another triumph at the event.

Price, 40, posted details online about the garment and encouraged followers to come forward with information.

The former world champion said he had been offered a possible lead from a supporter who claimed to have overheard a man entering a taxi bound for Cwmbran allegedly boasting about taking the coat.

Price has not named the individual involved and made clear he is simply seeking help to recover his property, but the appeal has already circulated widely among darts followers.

The incident arrives at a crucial moment for Price, who begins his latest bid for a second world title this winter at Alexandra Palace against Adam Gawlas.

The 23-year-old Czech player, known for soaking himself with water during a dramatic moment on stage two years ago, represents an intriguing opening opponent.

For Price, however, the immediate priority is returning to the form that once made him the most feared competitor on the circuit.

Price’s rise in darts remains one of the sport’s most extraordinary stories.

A former professional rugby player who did not join the PDC full-time until his mid-20s, he advanced through the rankings with startling speed.

His breakthrough came with victory at the 2018 Grand Slam of Darts, an event he would go on to win three times.

The triumph marked the arrival of a force defined by raw power, visible emotion and unshakeable self-belief.

His crowning moment came in January 2021, when he defeated Gary Anderson 7–3 to lift the Sid Waddell Trophy.

That victory made him the first Welshman ever to win the PDC World Championship and sent him to world No 1, a position he held for much of the following year.

Few players have matched his ability to generate sustained runs of momentum: he has won seven PDC major singles titles, reached multiple televised finals and established himself as one of the modern game’s defining figures.

Price’s mixture of intensity and candour has also ensured a compelling relationship with audiences.

Supporters at Ally Pally, often raucous and partisan, have alternated over the years between rattling him and lifting him, though Price insists that scrutiny only fuels his determination.

His competitive rivalry with Luke Littler and Luke Humphries - currently the two favourites for the world crown - adds further intrigue to this year’s championship.

Price enters the tournament intent on reclaiming a title he believes he is still equipped to challenge for.

Before any of that unfolds, though, he remains hopeful that the coat mystery can be resolved.
