The two men will face off on Friday night

Gerwyn Price has declared that he is “not scared of anybody” and “here to win” as he prepares for a high-stakes World Grand Prix quarter-final showdown against teenage sensation Luke Littler in Leicester on Friday night.

The 2020 champion booked his place in the last eight with a commanding 3-0 victory over Josh Rock, setting up what promises to be one of the most anticipated clashes of the tournament.

Littler, the 18-year-old prodigy who has already become one of darts’ biggest draws, produced the same scoreline in his win over defending champion Mike De Decker.

Though he sealed his triumph with a spectacular 170 checkout, the youngster was not quite as dominant as in his opening-round demolition of Gian van Veen earlier in the week.

Price, however, is relishing the prospect of facing him.

“I really want to have a game against Luke,” the Welshman said.

“I think I need to up my scoring game, but if I put him under pressure it will be a good match.

“He’s playing well — I can’t take that away from him — but I’m here to win. I’m not scared of anybody. The key is that I don’t care who I play. I play the board, not the player.”

The former world champion added that too many opponents have been intimidated by Littler’s reputation before even stepping up to the oche.

“I know if I play my A-game, nine times out of ten I’ll win,” Price said.

“I think all the other players are scared of him before they get on the board, like with Phil Taylor years ago.

“If I turn up, I’ll win. If I don’t, it’ll be a tough game and I’ll probably lose.

“Luke was fantastic in his first game against Gian, but he wasn’t so good in his game against Mike — so I hope he plays as bad as that!”

Price’s bullish comments reflect a renewed confidence as he chases a second Grand Prix crown, five years after his breakthrough victory in 2020.

The former rugby player has long been known for his combative on-stage persona and mental toughness, qualities that could prove crucial against Littler, whose poise and precision have already seen him tipped as darts’ next dominant force.

Friday night’s other quarter-final will see world No 1 Luke Humphries take on Scotland’s Cameron Menzies, who has stunned the field by knocking out Chris Dobey and former world champion Rob Cross.

Humphries, one of the favourites for the title, praised his unseeded opponent but insisted he would not underestimate him.

“Cameron is a funny player,” Humphries said. “Sometimes he’s just unplayable but sometimes he’s not there.

“You don’t really know which version you’re going to get, but I’m planning on playing the best version.

“If you think you’re going to get the bad version, you can come unstuck. Every person I play, I always think I’m going to play their A-game.”

Menzies, 36, quit his job as a plumber five months ago to pursue darts full-time — a gamble that is paying off handsomely.

“I never thought I would get this far, so maybe I need to start believing in myself,” he admitted.

“I hate looking too far ahead because every time I do, I fail.

“But I feel like I have no pressure now because I’ve done better than I thought.

“What a difference a year makes! It’s my dream to be professional. I’m in a lucky place, but there are so many young kids now banging averages I could only dream of at that age.

“I don’t know how long I’ve got left in this game.”
