Bobby George reveals he keeps a severed toe in his bar as a souvenir

Darting icon Bobby George has revealed he keeps a severed toe in a bottle of vodka behind his bar in his luxurious Essex mansion.

George, 79, was famed for his flamboyant and eccentric style.

The King of Bling was impressive at the oche, too, winning eight major titles including two Butlins Grand Masters and two News of the World Darts Championships.

In his new autobiography, however, George revealed he had to have four of his toes amputated due to a genetic condition.

Bobby George was known for his love of golden jewellery

In typical fashion, George asked, and was permitted, to keep one in a bottle of vodka behind his bar.

“Nobody believes me, or at least they don't, until they see me without my socks on,” he wrote. “Or if they come to my bar in George Hall and see the evidence for themselves.

“There's some sort of gene in my body that has caused the toes to pop out of their socket and cross over.

Bobby George won eight titles during his career

“It got so bad that I couldn't get my shoes on. I couldn't walk without checking my balance each step.

“It was so painful on some days that if I'd had a sharp enough knife I would have chopped them off myself.”

The pain became so unbearable for the former darts champion that the only option was, as he described, “Operation Toot-Toot-Tootsie Bye-Bye”.

The procedure amputated four of his toes, and afterwards, with three medically discarded, George requested that he keep the remaining one.

He was instructed that keeping the severed toe in vodka would preserve it perfectly.

“So I took it home and popped it in some vodka and now it has a permanent home behind the bar in George Hall.”

Bobby George enjoyed bling on his shirts, too

He remarked, jokingly: “Whenever anyone comes to the house for a drink, I whip it out and ask them if they want a cocktail or a cocktoe.

“It’s also meant that, over the years, if I’ve been away from home for any length of time and my wife, Marie, is missing me, she can always suck my toe!”

Famous for his extravagance at the oche, the story, and the manner of it, may not come as a huge shock to darting fans.

Known at the oche as the King of Bling, George was famous for his love of golden jewellery - a love that has not faded since his retirement in 2009.

George boasts an illustrious 32-year career, with his most successful period coming between 1979 - 1986.
