Virat Kohli has announced he is quitting Test cricket, with the India legend choosing to walk away just a month before his side tours England.

The 36-year-old has established himself as a legend over the sport over the years, with many considering him to be one of the best batters of all time.


All good things must end eventually, however.

And Kohli, writing on social media, has now confirmed his time as a Test cricketer is over.

"It’s been 14 years since I first wore the baggy blue in Test cricket," he said.

"Honestly, I never imagined the journey this format would take me on.

"It’s tested me, shaped me, and taught me lessons I’ll carry for life.

"There’s something deeply personal about playing in whites.

"The quiet grind, the long days, the small moments that no one sees but that stay with you forever.

"As I step away from this format, it’s not easy — but it feels right.

"I’ve given it everything I had, and it’s given me back so much more than I could’ve hoped for.

"I’m walking away with a heart full of gratitude — for the game, for the people I shared the field with, and for every single person who made me feel seen along the way.

"I’ll always look back at my Test career with a smile."

Kohli has been well-rewarded for his exploits on the field. He is believed to be worth around £96million as a result of his sensational performances and everything he's achieved.

He is currently married to Indian actress Anushka Sharma, with the pair tying the knot in 2017.

The duo previously started dating back in 2013 while on a promotional shoot for Clear shampoo.

The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter, in January 2021.

They then had a son in February last year.

Meanwhile, fans on social media have paid tribute to Kohli following his retirement announcement on Monday.

"Words aren't enough to describe your contribution to test cricket. Thank you Champ," said one user.

A second stated: "We respect your decision with tears in our eyes."
