The Three Lions are hoping to level the series at The Gabba

England star Zak Crawley has revealed the Three Lions have no plans to declare following their impressive start to the second Test of the Ashes against Australia.

The tourists ended the day on 325-9, with Joe Root finally hitting his first century Down Under.

Crawley also impressed with the bat, with the England star smashing a total of 76 runs from just 93 deliveries.

The visitors are currently well-poised, with Root (135) and Jofra Archer (32) still at the crease going into day two.

Crawley, however, has revealed England have no plans to declare at the current moment in time and that it hasn't crossed their mind so far.

"No talk of declaring. If the boys go hard and get out, it's a win-win," he said.

"They went hard and it came off. A valuable 50 runs. We were happy.

"I'm not to sure [what the plan is]. We'll see how these guys go. They're going to go hard in the morning and it'll be an important first 10 overs with the ball."

Crawley also opened up on his own innings, with the England star delighted to perform after struggling in Perth last time out.

"It wasn't quite as good as Joe [Root] but I'll take it," he said.

"I felt good - much better than Perth. I was just trying to keep it simple, score straight and on the leg side.

"I was happy with my knock. I was gutted to get out when I did. The pitch was getting flatter. We finished well with Joe and Jof.

"Ducky [Ben Duckett] also wanted [to bat at two]. He gets to choose. I was more than happy to face the first one.

"I had a clear plan and I stuck to it. I hit the ball hard if it came into my area on the leg side.

"A couple of loose shots as I tend to do but I got away with them and played nicely down the ground as well.

"When I got in and the ball started doing less, I felt I could do more on the off side."

Meanwhile, Australia star Alex Carey has admitted to mixed emotions following the action.

He said: "A bit up and down really, We started well with the ball, saw a good partnership form with Crawley and Root.

"Got back into them after the break, that late partnership was crucial for them. Could've been worse, could've been better.

"I thought Joe played an outstanding innings and I know it means a lot to him to get that on Australian soil.

"I think it's a pretty good pitch. Would've been nice to get them out, England played well.

"We're confident that we're in the game, we've got a good opportunity with the bat.

"I think it's a good pitch. We saw the boys try and change it [the ball] a lot.

"You could put it out of shape with your hands, it was very soft. It produced runs and wickets.

"I think the wickets good, the ball performed how we thought it would. Would've been nice to get Jofra out early.

"It's always going to be tough to leave out a player like Nathan Lyon. The selectors have done a good job at making the right calls, I'm looking forward to get back out there tomorrow and wrap it up and then get on with some batting."
