Frank Bruno has declared himself back to full fitness just months after a serious medical emergency forced him into hospital while travelling to the Middle East.
The former world heavyweight champion, 63, revealed he has returned to daily training with a new coach following weeks of recovery from what doctors described as a severe viral infection.
Bruno had sparked fears he had suffered a stroke in March when he collapsed on a flight bound for Thailand, where he had been due to host a series of shows.
“I feel really good now, a lot better than I was,” Bruno told Matchroom’s Modern Boxing Journal.
“I was travelling to Thailand to do four shows and fell ill on the way.
"The journey started off good, but a couple of hours into the flight I started to feel unwell.
"By the time the flight landed in Qatar I didn’t know what was going on.

“All I remember was waking up in a hospital with drips and tubes in my arms.
"I had to stay in hospital in Doha for two weeks, before they let me come back to England.
"I was taken to a hospital in London for another two weeks, and they said I had caught some kind of virus. It was very scary. I don’t really remember a lot about it.”

The episode left Bruno with partial memory loss and forced him to cancel a number of personal appearances, but the former fighter insists he has since turned a corner.
“I was told by the doctors to take some time off,” he explained.
“But I have been in the gym every day; I have a new trainer who’s been pushing hard. She’s really good.”
Bruno, who lost just five of his 45 professional bouts during a decorated career, has become as well known for his work outside the ring as for his achievements within it.
Since retiring, he has been an outspoken advocate for mental health awareness, speaking openly about his battles with bipolar disorder and founding the Frank Bruno Foundation to support those in need.
