The King and Queen even enjoyed a traditional potluck meal

The King and Queen joined residents of Front Royal, Virginia for a neighbourhood block party marking the United States' 250th anniversary celebrations.

Their Majesties watched as a procession made its way along Main Street, featuring marching bands, cheerleaders, the town's community trolley, and vintage vehicles from both Britain and America.

Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger and Front Royal Mayor Lori Athey Cockrell accompanied Their Majesties during the festivities in the small Virginian town.

The event formed part of the wider America250 commemorations taking place across the country to mark 250 years since the Signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Charles and Camilla observed a traditional potluck meal, a distinctly North American custom where community members each contribute a dish to create a collective feast.

Throughout 2026, similar gatherings are being organised nationwide as part of the America250 programme, encouraging US citizens to celebrate the founding of their nation.

The King and Queen toured the array of food and beverages assembled on the communal table before adding their own contribution, a British dish presented for fellow guests to enjoy.

The potluck tradition embodies the spirit of community togetherness that organisers hoped would characterise anniversary celebrations across the country.

Within the town square, the royal couple encountered representatives from organisations supporting domestic abuse survivors alongside emergency service personnel.

Young people from local scout groups were also present, as were members of the Virginia State Little League team, who claimed their state championship title the previous summer.

An agricultural showcase featured Kerry Hill sheep, a breed with Welsh origins now being raised locally, together with beekeepers, flower growers, and participants in the Future Farmers of America educational programme.

Entertainment reflecting the area's Scots-Irish roots, which trace back to the 1700s, included bluegrass musical performances and traditional Appalachian clog dancing demonstrations.
