Three years after leaving the royal household, Jane Andrews killed her boyfriend

A new television drama is set to revisit the murder committed by Sarah Ferguson's former royal dresser, Jane Andrews.

The Duchess of York has already dominated headlines this week after the disclosure of an email she sent to convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, calling him a "supreme friend".

The message, written in April 2011, came after she had publicly distanced herself from him in an interview.

Several charities have since cut ties with the Duchess following the revelation and her apology to Epstein.

Now, ITV is preparing to broadcast a drama based on the life of Ms Andrews, who worked for the Duchess for nine years from 1988 to 1997.

Three years after leaving the royal household, Ms Andrews killed her boyfriend, Tom Cressman, at their home in Fulham, London.

Prosecutors said Ms Andrews struck Mr Cressman with a cricket bat while he slept and then stabbed him with a kitchen knife.

She was convicted of murder at the Old Bailey in 2001 and sentenced to life in prison.

Ms Andrews served 14 years before being released on licence in 2015.

She was recalled to prison in 2018 after allegations of harassment involving a married man.

Police investigated but took no action, and she was released again in 2019.

Now 58, she is reported to be working at a charity-funded animal hospital.

The ITV drama, titled The Lady, will trace Ms Andrews’ life from her upbringing in Cleethorpes to her time in royal service and eventual conviction.

Written by Debbie O’Malley, whose credits include Humans and Call the Midwife, the series will explore the events leading up to the killing and her rapid rise in social circles as the Duchess’s trusted dresser.

The production features BAFTA Rising Star winner Mia McKenna-Bruce as Andrews.
