The gathering also recognised designers who are leading the way in sustainable practices and making a positive impact on the environment.

They noted that the Princess has "long championed British fashion and designers" throughout her royal career.

The sources added that she "looks forward to continuing to do so in the years ahead".

The Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design was first presented to Richard Quinn in February 2018.

The occasion marked Queen Elizabeth II's first visit to London Fashion Week at the age of 91.

It was also the late monarch's debut appearance on the famed 'frow' - front row - alongside legendary Vogue editor Anna Wintour.

Wintour notably kept her sunglasses firmly on throughout the historic royal visit.
