The joint public appearance marks another chapter in the enduring relationship between the British and Jordanian royal households.

The royal friendship originated with Queen Elizabeth II and King Hussein, who both ascended to their thrones in 1952 and maintained a strong bond until the Jordanian monarch's death in 1999.

King Charles acknowledged these ties during his 2021 Jordan visit, stating: "I feel this friendship in the most personal of ways, as Jordan has always been a part of my life."

He noted how his mother and King Hussein provided "great mutual support to each other through the decades ahead."

Jordan's King Abdullah II reciprocated these sentiments, expressing warmth about watching their sons forge their own relationship: "To see two young men, our sons, establish their relationship really warms my heart."

Princess Kate also has a connection to Jordan, having spent three years there during her childhood whilst her father, Michael Middleton, worked in Amman as a British Airways flight dispatcher.

The Jordanian royal couple has since welcomed a daughter, Princess Iman.

During Prince William's 2018 solo visit to Jordan, part of a broader Middle Eastern tour, he revealed Kate's disappointment at missing the trip.

He said: She loved it here, she really did. She is very upset that I am coming here without her."

Prince William, Princess Kate and their three children holidayed privately in Jordan during 2021.
