The royal patron made the confession after receiving a QNIS badge

Queen Camilla has admitted feeling "undeserving" of an honour bestowed upon her by the Queen's Nursing Institute Scotland.

The royal patron made the confession after receiving a QNIS badge at a reception on Wednesday.

"I feel very undeserving of this award, especially having spoken to so many of you, seeing how much you do, for so many things," Camilla said at the event.

Wednesday's reception marked the Queen's first official engagement with QNIS since her appointment as patron. Erica Reid, QNIS chair, presented the badge to Camilla at the conclusion of the event.

The Queen hosted the reception for the charity, meeting current and former nurses, supporters and volunteers responsible for delivering the organisation's work across Scotland.

The Queen's Nursing Institute Scotland is a charity dedicated to providing professional development opportunities for the nation's community nurses and midwives.

The organisation supports healthcare professionals in working collaboratively with patients to address health inequalities.

QNIS was established in 1889 through a donation from Queen Victoria.

The institute originally organised training for District Nurses throughout Scotland until the late 1960s, enabling them to care for people in their homes and communities.

The charity particularly focused on those unable to afford private nurses or hospital care.

Camilla became the sixth Royal Patron of the Queen's Nursing Institute in May 2024.

The contemporary Queen's Nurse Development Programme continues to award the prestigious title, with more than 170 Queen's Nurses currently working throughout Scotland.

These healthcare professionals serve in diverse community settings including care homes, prisons, GP practices and schools.

Queen's Nurses also work within community mental health teams, as health visitors and midwives, and in community learning disability teams.

The institute's purpose remains focused on improving health through prevention and social justice.
